Reason behind no account wide reputation for BFA?

Really curious on Blizzard’s standpoint on not having account wide reputation for BFA?

My problem:
It is very discouraging to see I am neutral/friendly when I create an alt character and makes me feel like I’m ‘behind’, even if it has no impact on my actual character progress. It makes alt characters feel incomplete even if they achieve a similar item level.

My thoughts:
I’m not asking for a way to rapidly stack my reputation to hit exalted in a set time frame. I simply just want to feel like the progress I’ve made on my main character has some impact on my alts at the very least. Chasing gear is easy, especially when you have a guild to help you out or are talented with pvp arena, but it really stinks to feel like your character is missing such a big part of what makes them yours. I’m completely fine with the war campaign being repeated, or even some very major story line stuff that should feel like an accomplishment per character…but let’s not pretend that the Tortollan Seekers is a fun repeatable experience.

Additionally, does this not translate into more playtime from the consumer?

I’m not a game developer and I won’t pretend to be, but why can’t the following happen?

  1. Reputation for BFA is now account wide.
  2. Quest lines will only grant reputation once per battle.net account
  3. World/repeatable quest reputation will only grant reputation once per day, per account.

Because if you play both horde and Alliance those reputations would stack up way too quickly. There’s absolutely no reason why my human Warrior should be exalted with any kind of horde faction just for having an alt. There’s probably other good reasons too but that was the first one that immediately came to my mind.

Because your alt johnny noob shoes has literally never met the races involved prior to creating/leveling.

I like character progression games. Not mix-and-match alt based account progression games.

I would be cool with that. I am more of an account player than I am a character specific player.

I mean I have alt accounts so…

I remember a time when each toon was special and of its own. It had its own mounts, its own pets, its own achievements. It has its own identity in the game and place. Now all that is simply blur together, one toon is no more special than the other toon outside you may choose to play it more thus it be better geared.

There’s plenty of things that are account bound. Not everything needs to be.

Times change.

I think the majority of people that play this game have alts. I’d also guess that quite a big number have more than 3 max level alts. Account Bound stuff is the progression of the game. If I still needed to grind out each mount I doubt I’d still be playing.

Rep should be account bound.

I care less about the actually rep progress than I do the rep rewards. Having to earn it again to unlock vendor items is a bit of a pain… it would be nice to have the vendor armor be used by alts, get the alchemy recipes if I unlocked on a scribe, etc…

I’d be OK if rep vendor items became account bound. That would satisfy the frustration i feel on this topic… I don’t care a lot about it mind you, that would just be a nice benefit to alt professions and gearing.

Then alts give an advantage and now you’re “forced” to have alts. Because those alts will now be balanced around you having them to gain rep. Think of the patch with new reps associated with them.

Say there’s an intro quest that gives you 1k rep. You do it on your only character and you get 1k rep. Dude over there with 40 alts does it on each and has now gained 40k rep.

Account bound rewards wouldn’t be awful, but account bound rep is dumb.

Pretty much this right now if you leveled 2 toons fully on one faction in the current xpac, you would pretty much be exalted with every rep for that faction. Not that I care I have already four toons that are fully exalted with every group in this xpac for both sides Horde and Alliance. Which is why I tell people rep is not that big of a grind that people say that it is.

Same here, honestly. Another game I’m playing has account-based progression, and it’s irritating the crap out of me in odd and unexpected ways.

We have moved so far away from playing unique characters and toward playing a 50 headed avatar its annoying.

You’re the reason wow is dying. We can’t have fun because “nut immersive” and becuz “muhh elitism”. Yeah tell me that the bla bla bla your char does everytime he speaks is immersive. Now go back to some stupid hardcore game and let Wow be. Osrs is there for you if you want to grind stupid stuff over and over again. Seems you would like it and cut trees 24/7.

Because rep is part of character progression. You are getting character specific rewards like profession patterns and gear from them. Now if they made rep account wide they would have to make you do others things on each character to get those profession patterns and gear.

And you are correct - this is your problem not a game problem. I couldn’t care less what my characters reps are because there is literally no reason to look at that panel on alts.

btw, gratz on hitting 120 3 weeks ago - you are the reason the game isn’t dying.

You okay buddy? Need me to call 911? Looks like you might be having a stroke.
