You got a phone bro?
Because this is an MMO that is more then a decade old. Many conveniences were added over time, it makes sense that some conveniences to be pruned to keep inconveniences from disappearing. If they disappear, mechanics that solve those inconveniences will become irrelevant.
I do not advocate for increased travel time, that is why I suggested insta flight between flight masters and maybe even increase the cost of the trip to compensate. The idea of unskipable cinematics everytime you want to travel is absurd.
All of those inconveniences are stuff that is boring, slow movement through water, gold costs, mobs in the way, cd on hearthstones, etc… And you tailor your gameplay to avoid these stuff instead. Everything you do you have to evaluate cost benefit of distance, gold cost, chance of reward, etc… If you auto solve this for everyone, the solutions lose value.
Hey Tai I actually made a thread explaining why portals should be kept you should check it out.
Why in the hell would you intentionally inconvenience the people who pay for your game? Do you see what you just wrote? You want to intentionally piss of our player base to make things harder to do? Am I on candid camera?
I’m responding to someone who mentioned the inability to fly in old zones.
I wouldn’t use a roulette portal ,oh no.
~10k in forum posts on why this is a bad decision and we get 1 blue post.
Acticuck fire to many?
Why don’t you level to 80 and fly there? If it is this inconvenient to go there at 78 go somewhere else.
But why go through all this trouble to solve a problem that could be solved by doing nothing?
All the inconveniences in the game are intentional, and there are hundreds of them.
Quest starts at 78 and do want to start the zone but i want to do Cot and i’m in dalaran.
Can you prove that?
But are all inconveniences actually healthy for the game as a whole?
There are indeed times that Blizzard throws up a wall to slow you down for no other reason than to slow you down. It doesn’t help the game, it only hurts the players.
And that’s why people speak against this change. Because there is nothing good about this change, it is only hurting a chunk of the playerbase with no positive gain.
Because if you have a rotten corpse on the ground and it stinks a lot, buying air fresheners is absurd if you can resurrect it. You have a massive problem that is being slightly increased, why not solve that massive problem instead. Why should we have extremely long unskipable cinematics every time you want to go somewhere. That is the stinking corpse, not the change in distance.
Should bring back downvotes so we can watch the blue go down like de titanic.
There really seems to be overwhelming negativity about this decision. I don’t see a reason they would want to pick this subject as the one to battle the player base when they could look like they won a communications victory by saying they are listening and reversing the decision so I guess we will see. I definitely won’t unsub over this but I disagree with the decision.
Many of us said, when they started their anti-flying stance, that if they really wanted players on the ground they didn’t need to remove flight, they needed to give us good reasons to be on the ground. Don’t slow me in getting to my destination, give me a reason to stay there and be immersed in what I’m doing.
I feel the same goes for portals. Outside of portals to instances like CoT and Kara, most portals take us to hubs. The hub is seldom our final destination; we’re there for the gameplay that spreads out from those hubs.
The world is bigger when I can get to it.
What Blizzard should have done with the new portal room was have it phased to you, with a single, center platform, and a mage standing nearby. You talk to said mage, and click on a dialogue box to get him to cast a portal on the platform to where you wanted to go. Nice, simple, no lag, no players standing on top of portals. All the portals could be included. No reason to cut anything out.
endorsement thumb no likes left. Nicely said, reminded of things I hate about my Lock in addition to the “Yo lock, summon now” crap they get.

I’m still not convinced that this “massive problem” even exists, especially since Blizzard refuses to add any incentive to do anything in the old world. And they should be putting that system together and getting it ready to go before they start making old world travel take longer.
