This is such a poor and ill conceived idea. Inconvienence does not make the world appear bigger it is just a unnecessary time sink where one shouldn’t be. This is the type of tone deaf decision that a out of touch company makes. A long flight over a area instead of a instant portal just adds unnecessary wasted time. By that logic why not remove flying so it takes even longer to accomplish something in game thus making the world appear even larger!!! You know what everyone does during a long flight in game, they afk, or alt tab. What a horrible horrible bone headed decision. This game needs to be wrestled back from the bean counters before its too late.
If anything it’d become a running joke and once fixed, we’d laugh it all off.
Minor frustration while they fix things.
But instead they give us a song and dance on their reasons.
You would think they’d have done this already over 14 years. Back in vanilla, 40v40 wPVP raids were just as molasses-slow and stuttering as they are now.
I think i’ll just come into the game that day a little later to be sure.I am sure the launch would crash or lag at the start screen.
I am here to tell you that I totally disagree on whatever reason you gave just to remove the portals. I dont need to give any reason to disagree as existence portals never been a problem.
That’s a good point. I need to make sure I’m not logged off in Orgrimmar on Monday night.
Don’t even get me started on Garrison, which exemplifies another ‘great idea’ that get crushed by reality.
Having each garrison have a random NPC per day sounds like a great idea to ‘encourage’ people to make friends and explore each other’s base - on paper.
On practice? I lost count how many people simply tell me ‘No’, or the silent treatment, or even better - ignore listed, for simply asking ‘May i visit your garrison please?’
Trying to get Harrison Follower for my alts becomes an impossible task, because not only i need harrison/dalty to provide the exact quest i’m missing, i also need people’s generousity to allow me to visit their garrison in case i don’t get him to spawn in mine. Which gets better here: the ‘master’ needs to be in their garrison, else the daily npc won’t spawn at all for visitors.
Seriously, is it asking too much to have Muradin, Harrison/Daltry, Renzik and Daily Trader to spawn simultaneously on every garrison? We got tons of space in that personal base of ours. Why they must share the same spawning spot? Why must the ‘owner’ of the garrison needs to be in their garrison for npc to spawn?
I know. While I may not do PvP myself, I AM upset that this is an issue. And honestly, if they can’t handle 80 people in an area, then there are definite server issues.
But I also say this, there have bene world boss issues since 7.2
Prior to 7.2 I could run my machine at medium settings with a world boss. Something they changed in 7.2 suddenly made world bosses run like molasses. And this was the Invasion portals on Argus, world bosses in Legion AND continued forward to current day with world bosses in BfA.
And it has extended to Raids as well. They changed something big in 7.2 that I had to REDUCE my settings just to get decent FPS.
Hamsters would become the new Soon™ and it would all blow over.
Whereas now, the answers they’ve given us are so clearly counter to what they’re doing, they have players looking for their actual motives. And after so many boneheaded moves, it’s really no wonder they’ve lost so much player trust. Even if they’re honest now, people are still going to doubt.
+1000. Making up reasons why the portals need to be removed instead of telling us the actual one…good gods, were none of the devs around for WoD and flying? Or did the memory of that somehow get magically erased?
“We want the world to feel bigger!” didn’t work then, and it won’t work now. You know it, and most importantly, we know it.
Trust takes years to gain, but can be lost in a matter of minutes.
I’m out of “Likes” so these will have to do:
They don’t want to force people to visit SW/Org, they want to force them to visit the portal room. They put a lot of work into adding this feature, they now have to demonstrate that it was not wasted time and resources. What better way to do this than to remove any way for them to be at other portal locations (IE, new dal).
I understand why you are doing it but at the same time i don’t think it will improve the experience. People may spend longer in the zones but they will also resent having to do it. Let people that want to go out into the world and take the extra time to travel around do it, don’t force it on people. Honestly i was pleasantly surprised that you didn’t remove the portals in Dalaran.
All the this. And I mean, it isn’t like they’re a multi-billion dollar enterprise that can afford all the servers they could ever want or need- OHWAIT
I remember those they were outrageous ,try to use a spell forget it,did i cast it or not?
Except of course the problem is the Portal Rooms are only in SW/Org. So the end result is people are visiting SW/Org and increasing the server load for those two cities.
That’s why I said the smart thing would be having similar portal rooms in every major city. That way the server load isn’t as heavy.
So I think there is something about this whole mess they’re flat out LYING to us about. Too many things just don’t add up and make sense.
Well, they lied about “that thing we did one time four expacs ago” being TRADITION, so why wouldn’t they lie about other things?
They can’t.
Because adding more servers won’t help ‘realize our full potential’. They need to ‘meet the expectations’.
Got to rack up that played time for those shareholder metrics… Blizzard has been utterly consumed by activision, and the bottom line is all they care about now. Not player preference or feedback, and not player experience, as this change has added nothing and taken away a lot.
