It would be really nice, particularly in modern times where we have extended maintenance most weeks, to have accurate realm status baked into the launcher with the option for a notification when realms come online after maintenance. I’m working from home waiting on checking my vault, and there isn’t a way to check if the servers are up other than launching the game.
Even the realm status page shows every realm online when they clearly are not (which, P.S., makes the realm status page completely worthless).
Just a suggestion.

I don’t think they want people to know the moment servers come up, that way the servers don’t get slammed instantly when the status goes green.

Definitely this. I was fooled this morning by the realm status website as a matter of fact. I went and checked it quick before I got home to see if the servers were up, and it showed all of them online, only to find that “no servers available” message when I tried to log in. I get that they post the estimated times of maintenance or whatever but a little indication in the launcher would be nice. This is also the first time I can recall that the website was not accurate though.

I like this suggestion. 
They could expand on it further by giving a population breakdown in a way too like high full low new player etc as well

I noticed this, the realm status always shows as up. It didn’t use to, I use to use it regularly to check realm status and now it’s just always set as “realm up”.

THIS especially… if you can’t accurately update the Realm Status Page (https://worldofwarcraft.blizzard.com/en-us/game/status/us) then please take it down.
And as the above poster said, the Realm Status Page shows all realms as UP, and my launcher shows them as all down.

This is a great idea. I just submitted it as a feedback idea on my beta Battle.net client. I’d suggest others do the same.
The servers were likely up, doesn’t mean you can connect to them.
You’re part of the group that wants companies return to the office and you wonder why they do so
Go for broke… No game downtime, then no need for realm status list.
