The problem with the optics of merging servers is that it is commonly viewed as “game is dying/dead” amongst the gaming news media and social comms like reddit et al. That’s why they’ll never do it. It will be tantamount to admitting it. Whether its true or not is irrelevant.
Many realms were offered free transfers during Shadowlands REALEASE that lasted about 3 months. It was offered on overpopulated realms to less populated realms.
I was on Area-52 and moved my toons to Wyrmrest Accord to avoid huge wait times and be with some friends I met.
SWTOR merged realms and the game is absolutely thriving. It’s next expansion comes out on the 14th of this month.
To claim that merging all the dead realms would hurt this game is just laughable.
wouldn’t people lose their names if there were full on mergers? I’d much prefer server connections from one of the smaller realms of the same type to one of the larger ones
this mainly why i quit wildstar after all the pve servers including RP (Evindra) were merged. A lot of the non RP players would troll the RP players and be disruptive or even downright antagonistic despite the RP players never having wanted to be there. Many of them later chose to not play ‘there’ either and quit
Yep, that’s exactly what would happen. In the event of a merger players merging into the original realm would lose their names if there was a clash.
sounds like what is happening with WoW now.
Imagine if you were on a realm where there was never any chat, even when you were in town; where you only see a handful of people at most in your capital city, and sometimes none; where no guilds ever advertise in trade chat, and your character has never had a random invite. Where a handful of players control the AH and prices are 20x what they are on busier servers.
What is this “pride” of which you speak? Is that something for the “haves” to gloat about to the “have nots”?
I totally agree. Current designers are unwilling to accept the playerbase they have and willing to risk it all to pander to a fantasy playerbase they think they deserve.
This is what happened just before they stopped talking about server connections:
My mains realm was connected with 6 others last time and every time they merged the realms, the realms that were connected got duplicates of items they had posted on the auction house - all kinds of free gold for them and a wrecked market for months for some items for the rest of us.
Wait, really? That’s great. I always considered SWTOR to be a great Bioware game and a poor WoW clone - primarily because the leveling process was a rail ride that offered zero diversity aside from your classes specific storyline, thus making replaying a new character horribly boring. Glad to hear it’s still going (Sith Inquisitor FTW). Now someone just needs to buy and refurbish Rift. And maybe make Skyforge clicker friendly. That game looks SO cool.
TBH I’m not that attached to my characters name, especially since you can always use Unicode to put little characters on the letters as a work around. A bit annoying? Maybe. But a thriving realm would be worth it IMO.
Literally Ysera-Durotan. And the handful of people who do play are massively anti-social.
I would play that too!
SWTOR has some great changes in the upcoming expansion. Classes are no longer tied to certain combat styles (sith/Jedi can use any sith/Jedi styles regardless of class, tech users can use any other tech users combat styles as well).
Plus the game is finally getting dual spec.
