Hi!
All my characters are on a locked realm, and after a lot of talking, a close friend decided they wanted to play some Classic! As the sticky states, right now the only way to play with this new friend is to leave my existing friends and re-roll on a new realm. This really isn’t in the cards for me, so I plan to wait out the locked realm.
Is it at all possible to get some kind of timeframe on the realm-lock situation? Just looking to see if this is a week or two, a month or two, or … soon tm. My friend is in college, so summer vacation being around the corner is a lot of free time to play, so I’d love to know if there’s any hope of playing with them with all my resources I’ve gathered over the months!
Thanks!

Agreed wholeheartedly.
I’m in the same situation.
I would like a time-frame stated and/or other solutions to this dilemma.
Thank you.

Level a fresh character on a different server with your friend, transfer when they open up. Unless you were planning on boosting your friend or giving them money/large bag slots, which would just make the experience of a new player very dull and boring. Your friend may not even care for the game after playing it for a bit.
Every new wow player needs to experience the bag space issue at low levels, its annoying to veteran players, but finding that sweet 6 slot bag at level 3 is a game changer.

To be blunt the locks will be lifted when the population on the locked server lowers. I can tell you from my experience in another MMO there really is no time frame for it. You may be waiting days or months, just depends on how long it takes the population on locked servers drops to level Blizzard feels they can open them again.
unlock all servers!
3 minutes later
lock all servers!
4 minutes later
unlock all servers again!
3 minutes later
lock all transfers!

Me too, but my friend is now playing Retail.
Was that experience also during worldwide Coronavirus quarantines?

You are literally asking someone to predict the future.
Since the pandemic has not happened in more than 100 years,
and the world was very different 100 years ago than today,
predicting the future is impossible. No-one can help you.

Different people play the game for different reasons. Just as some people love to play solo, others love to experience dungeons in a group. This friend of mine has played since BC, just as I have, and has done a lot of raiding and is very used to the game. I do plan to give them bags and just enough gold to train skills when they want. I don’t think that takes away too much from the game, and neither do they.
It’s not a bad idea to start on another realm, but what if when the lock is lifted they don’t allow transfers. This is just another reason I’m asking here, to try to get some answers.

Honestly, realistically never. Not until TBC servers come out will those massive servers ever be unlocked. They’re pretty much locked for good forever.
You would have a better chance at getting an answer from their Twitter account. However, I’d still rate the odds on getting an official answer as slim to none.
Sorry you feel that way. All I’m try to be asking for is a little bit of insight from the people who’ve placed locks on the realm. We know it’s a difficult-to-predict time, but by now they have 13 days worth of data on how the locks have worked. With that data they can tell players like me and many others in my situation how the realm population is affected, and hopefully, extrapolate to give an estimate. It doesn’t have to be a “we were right” if the population drastically decreases or “we were wrong” post if the population remained to same, just facts about how much more they are willing to leave it locked before they are satisfied with the population.

Transfer, as in the paid service, back to the original realm if the lock down is lifted?
My server doesn’t have free transfers to leave, and yet its locked down to new players.
I’d like more clarity about this whole situation and more avenues of solutions for us, from the devs.

I was told by the ticketing system to post on these forums.

Well then, I’m sure the automated ticket system knows best and your issues will surely be addressed in a timely manner.
Oh man, don’t get me excited about TBC servers. If those came out I’d leave my Classic progress in a heartbeat! Haha, that’s a solution I could get behind. But until then, I hope “never” isn’t the case. But if it is-- that’s why I’m asking here – if these servers will never be unlocked, then I will certainly move servers.
That may be the case, although after contacting support they did direct me here, so since both places have slim chances, I guess I’ll just stay here. But thanks for the insight! I’m a long time player but first time poster

I have posted in another forum and updated my ticket. I dont mean to speak for everyone but I think the frustration is blizzard made a decision with no warning that affected how many of us play the game. Go anywhere on this forum right now and it is littered with frustrations about how the realm situation is being handled. I don’t need an official timeline or response from blizzard what i need is anyone from their side to work with people to find a meaningful solution. A timely manner doesn’t seem to be within the framework considering I’m going on day 4 of my ticket and realms have been locked for weeks. Their effort to address this problem is to have players publicly lay out their grievances on a forum for people to nitpick at.

Thats what CSRs who can’t give you what you want and don’t want a bad survey always say.
