With more and more realms being merged together, would it not be a good idea to essentially do a name merge as well? I’m not talking about actually “merging” the name of the server but for example, I play on Malygos, we are merged with Icecrown and soon to be merged with Garona. I guess my suggestion would be to drop 2 of the 3 names, idc which. I feel like this would be a start to bringing back realm identity and make it less confusing on the community on which realms they can trade/guild with. I ultimately see a future where 5,6,7 servers are all merged together anyway, so why not try to build back some of the realm identity and strengthen that servers community.
Then the issue with names will come up.

That is a good point that honestly I did not consider, but still there has to be some solution, at wow’s current rate in a few years we’re gonna be seeing more and more servers merged together, its not only confusing but it makes no sense.
Personally, I don’t think I would want to see that, TC, but what I think would be good is if the Realm List could be updated to better display the server groups.
So like, for example, instead of just being an large list of names (only using a few for example)

Just something to better display which servers are connected and which servers are not when looking at the list in game. Just my two cents.
Servers are not being merged, they are being connected, which means you don’t have to worry about loosing character names.
If they actually merged, there probably would be renaming happening, making for an not so happy player base, unless they remove this unique part of player names by servers, maybe by adding some other identifier, such as surnames, or extend the battle tag number system to characters names.
connected just means you will have more people running around doing things… more “busy” things around you.
So when realms are connected does that mean they can swap gold and items as if they were on the same server or is it more cross realm sharding silliness?
A bunch of connected realms act as if you are on the same realm, so you can trade, join guilds, do mythic content before cross realms are enabled, etc.
