2020 has been a bad year for Blizzard.
Not surprised!

Maybe they really do need to pay a little more to get better database people. On the other hand, they aren’t dealing with banking or health records, so maybe it makes sense to cut corners, I don’t know.
I guess I’ll be happy with the few issues we’ve seen. Trade chat was really fun last night getting to meet the new people.
Sorry if someone else pointed this out already, I scanned reply’s but could have easily missed one. When they did the first round of connections they did them based off of battlegroups. Now, I don’t fully remember if they adjusted any battlegroups shortly before starting connections.
Realm Connections Already Done:
Farstriders, Silver Hand and Thorium Brotherhood
There are no other RP realms in our battlegroup
Blackwater Raiders and Shadow Council
Feathermoon and Scarlet Crusade
That leaves only Moon Guard from their battlegroup
Kirin Tor, Sentinels and Steamwheedle Cartel
Aslo the only RP realms in their battlegroup
Argent Dawn and The Scryers
Also the only RP realms in their battlegroup
The Venture Co. and Maelstorm
Ravenholdt and Twisting Nether
That leaves Emerald Dream and Lightninghoof in their battlegroup
Cenarion Circle and Sisters of Elune are set to be connected which leaves only Wyrmrest Accord for them, and Earthen Ring is the only RP realm in their battlegroup.
Sorry to dash your hopes lol. And no, I didn’t know all of the realms and their battlegroups, I just remember explaining how they were going about it to my now husband. If I didn’t look them up it was going to drive me nuts so I figured I could share.
as long as none of those connections are to MG shudder
I’m actually really curious if they will follow this setup because Wyrmrest Accord is a full realm so even if CC/SOE has very few players (they are currently classified as medium), I can’t see that they would want to connect them to an already full server. Perhaps they will connect them with Feathermoon/Scarlet Crusade since Moonguard is also full?
this literally ruined grizzly-hills’ cozy feeling.
now boralus has too many instances and our guild is split accross those different instances, not seeing each other at our common spot.
went from cozy to immersion breaking with this simple merge
#ihatelayers
*they should really consider putting ppl from the same guild in the same layer… seems logical.
ESO had this technology like years ago.
They aren’t going to do that, i.e. merging a bunch of servers unto full RP servers.
I agree. Looking at the datacenters and estimated populations I would guess that CC/SOE could get connected to Farstriders group and that the Feathermoon group would get connected to the Blackwater Raiders.
While Bliz has only been connecting realms that are part of the same battle group, should that really be a limiting factor?
The physical hardware for the servers in North America are located in two places. Chicago and Los Angeles.
All the Latin America servers are in Chicago and are part of the same battlegroup and time zone already so they could easily be combined.
But, what stops blizzard from taking a server blade from one battlegroup at say the Chicago location and moving it to a different battlegroup at the same location? It might require physically moving the server blade from one spot in the facility to another but that doesn’t sound that difficult. I mean sure, if the guy carrying it trips and falls we could have a problem but that is what backups are for.
Cenarion Circle and Sisters of Elune were connected back in 2014.
While I can’t speak for everyone on the server, most of the RPers I know don’t want to be connected to a large realm like MG or WRA.
Good catch, I completely glazed over the date.
I don’t think it would necessarily prevent them from do so. Its also why I stated that I couldn’t remember if they did some rearranging just before the first connections happened (I feel like they did but could be wrong). Right now I don’t think they want to move battlegroups around so therefore they will stick to them if possible.
I am curious what they will do for Earthen Ring if they feel they need a connection. My guess would be moving them to Emerald Dream and Lightninghoof’s battlegroup (both are in Chicago) to possibly do a connection with Lighninghoof. Doing that would leave Emerald Dream, Moon Guard and Wyrmrest Accord as the only non-connected RP realms, which also happen to be full RP realms.
Well, my charachters are not sowing up. Yes, four days later. And no response from my ticket. WTF!!
It’s been 3 days now and my 14 year old Lv 120 Rogue with ALL OF MY STUFF on it has yet to even appear on Silvermoon or Mok’Nathal realms and is seemingly deleted from my account. Can I please get an update on this ASAP? Thanks.
you sure its gone? your chars might not show on the realm list after the mergers until you log into the server, so you might have to manually search for the server on the list sorting by name but once you log in, they should be there…
My friend’s characters weren’t showing as being on Lothar, it was even down in the High Pop section without any numbers in the relevant column, but after I convinced him to click on the realm name, all of the characters were there and he hasn’t had that problem since.
