This is what the devs delayed phase 4 for? A hard-line pass/fail gear check?
Looking back at previous “resist fights” from vanilla and TBC, you never needed an exact amount, you could use more to be safer or less to risk with some extra dps/healing, it wasn’t exact. And you could often do other things like using CCs or kiting or other strategies in place of resist gear; you had options on how to tackle the content.
But this? Literally “get X amount of resist or you unavoidably die” ? That’s the most uncreative way I’ve ever seen resistance mechanics be implemented.
The most common defense of this I’ve seen is:
“but they need it to 1shot because healers are so strong! healers and shadow priests would just outheal all the damage with no resist gear!”
You don’t counter strong healing by making things 1shot. You counter strong healing by increasing damage to the point where it’d be extremely hard to heal without using resist gear. You know, like most other resist gear fights before this.
Making it just outright 1shot you if you have less than X resist, is dumb.

Apparently the original MC was created in a single week to give players something to do end game. SoD version feels like it took the same amount of time with how lazy they were. Only problem was the original devs were talented, they pulled it off.
Having to rework how resists work just to make “challenging” content is absolute laziness. One shot mechanics because you don’t have FR? When has ANY content been like this?
Incoming some fanboys with “its just a small team bro!”. Get real, it’s a billion dollar company, make the team big then if that’s the excuse. We pay $15 a month to line some execs pockets while devs are understaffed and release the bare minimum releasable content.

great idea if you are trying to make the raid into shadow priest simulator 2024, can’t heal it? add another shadow priest, still can’t heal it? add another, how long until the vast majority of the casual playerbase runs out of shadow priests and literally cannot do the content? not long
how long until non shadow priest classes are booted from every raid to make room for shadow priests so that you don’t have to use resists?
Can you even run heat level 3 in tier 1?
Misconception. The geometry of the zone was created in a single week, not the entire raid. They still had to program all the mob spawns, and raid mechanics, and loot, etc. afterward.
Okay, then nerf VE healing. Problem solved. It’s already way too powerful.
