Really bad memory leak

Me and 2 of my friends are all in a party. We just ran a 13+ Mechagon and the tank noticed his ram was really high and ours (myself and the rogue) looked fine. However after randomly sitting in Dornogol my ram usage skyrocketed out of no where and used 12GB before it stopped climbing but I had no performance issues.

I thought maybe it could have been an addon issue so I disabled addons and it still did it. I have never had this issue before other than once with a bad addon months ago.

How could it be that all 3 of us have a memory leak issue and a couple others in trade chat also having a leak. There cant be a link here other than the actual game itself.

I had this issue in DF. First off try running a memory repair on your pc. If that doesn’t work upgrade to 32GB of ram assuming you are running 16GB based on your issue. When it happened to me I tried absolutely every in game solution I could find and redownloaded wow several times nothing worked except upgrading to 32GB of ram.

I’m running 16gig ram with very little issue but my wifes having massive frame dips recently, dunno if it’s RAM gig related, nothing about their rig has changed, same with mine, seems rather random tbh, hopefully theres an answer out there that isn’t updating hardware.

I have 32GB of ram and in ways you are correct as it seems to cap out at 12GB and doesnt really do much harm as the game runs fine but it is interesting. I will try a memory repair and see.

Thanks!

Ironically that is probably the most simple solution, ram is very cheap and simple to change.

I am also experiencing a massive memory leak; WoW consumes up to 12 GiB memory (way up from the 2.5-4 GiB it usually uses). I talked with someone on my server before; he suggested the recent Tuesday/Wednesday Windows Update was the culprit, but I believe it comes from recent updates to the WoW client instead.

Hopefully this can be fixed; it is not good watching my usage spike up from 39% to 85% while WoW is running.

actually this has nothing to do with windows update what so ever! this is purely a WoW issue. This first appeared in BFA, then it really appeared in DF and at the end SL. Now it fully appeared at the end of TWW s1, s2 pre patch.

This is purely on WoW’s dev’s team knowing about the issue and not knowing how to fix it or not wanting to fix it. Funny part is as im using ascension as an example as they had the same issue and they had it fixed pretty darn fast!

Some ways to band aid this issue are these :

  • Run memory test / repair
  • run ssd repair
  • run msconfig ( find out if any are on your end )
  • DL and install DDU ( display driver uninstaller )
  • Do a clean OS uninstall and install as well as update everything
  • Redownload WoW and your addons ( turn them on 1 by 1 - you wont notice a thing )

These are just some examples ive gone through myself. They are band aid fixes ( they are not guaranteed to work - they did for me for about a week then back to the same stuff that everyone is having )

TWW season 2 brought a lot of issues that the PTR told the devs about but the devs did not listen when it came to those issues. Memory leak being a big one, FPS being another one.

Another thing to add, dont assume its your PC. Plenty of us have multiple PCs and have tested theory’s on this nightmare and have found out that, it dont matter if you have a dinosaur PC or a 25k PC. The game isnt optimized to run correctly right now. Its one reason the game is running like snail ( have to be nice on this part HAHA ) also its not your ISP either unless you live on the moon
