I’m sitting at around 194 right now, still working on upgrading gear, but the highest I’ve tanked was a +7, which went well for what it was worth, though we didn’t time, and this was during last week with the buffed mob packs. I managed to run a +6 which wasn’t horrible.
Or should I just keep gearing up my other mage whose at 188 and try and get him decent enough to be carried in a +15 so I can get that mount?
like ilvl 215+ i would say.

with a good group, probably around 210 ilvl

Didn’t they tank it lower than that? I mean a good group as in not a pug. I was a bit surprised how well people were doing early on with garbage gear.
All keys were timed on a 15 the first week plus released. As for op realistically if you failing plus 7s no amount of gear will get you to timing 15s , you need to get better at tanking then you can easily tank the 15s realistically especially if you plan on pugging it.
No if your just gonna pay for carries it doesn’t matter what itemlevel ur mage is you will literally just stay at entrance while they do the key for you
Exactly. It’s not just a tank problem it’s the entire group that needs to play properly. But there is a lot of pressure on the tank and healer.
Just cause you can do all 15s at 184 ilvl with an incredibly coordinated group doesn’t mean average players will. 210-215 is probably when you should set your sights on being able to time 15s, along with knowing thee dungeons well.

Wish I could at 184 all im saying is skill is much more important then gear and if op doesn’t have the skill it doesn’t matter what is item level is, tank is the most important roll in mythic plus and they have to have the most knowledge of each dungeon
Once you overgear the dungeons your skill is irrelevant. If he can get to 220 ilvl he should be able to afk time the keys by the end of the season.
Not as a tank, my alt ran a plus 8 DOS last night , he is 197, the tank was a 210 druid and he died cause he didn’t know how to kite nerotic and just let it build up to 50 stacks, another player was a 207 warrior and he pulled 1.5k less then my 197 warrior , skill is more important than gear everytime
I’ve gotten KSM every season minus this one currently. By the end of the season when you completely overgear everything I don’t even have to use active mitigation. You just cant die.
Tanking is actually the easiest role, granted that you know the content youre tanking.
Well that could be said of any role as long as you know the mechs lol and thats what I’m saying his knowledge of the dungeons and how to play his role will help him time keys far more than gear.
I’m not the reason we are failing 7s. I know thats a snarky response, but most of the time we fail dungeons is because people can’t follow simple mechanics and they end up dying to it.
Plaguefall is a good example. I died so many times when I first started doing Mythics that now I never die to mechanics of any of the bosses now. But I can only do so much. I only have a limited number of aoe abilities to take down the webs on the 3rd boss, and so many people…SO MANY PEOPLE… get the debuff where they are targeted for an assassination and bring it into the group and we wipe to it. I keep telling these people its so bloody easy. When you get targeted wait until there is 3 seconds left on the debuff run out 3 feet away from group and let it fall off, and run back in. You have enough time to not get turned into a cocoon.
Again, I’m always willing to learn more, and I’m starting to use my Imprison more and more, same with Sigil of Anguish and Misery for kiting.
I’ve been tanking since Wrath. I always played either a Prot Warrior or a Prot Paladin. I’m used to calling out CCs, using line of sight, pulling 1 at a time. Though everyone as of late seems to be used to this idea of group pulling, which can cause more issues than help.
I think I just need to suck it up, reguild again(my old guild moved servers, while I left the game for a year), and find people who know what’s up. I can teach anyone any of the dungeons(minus Sanguine, and that’s only because I actively avoid it like the plague) in Mythic/Up to Mythic 4 as long as they are willing to learn and not be snarky about it thinking I’m a knowitall.
I knowitall because I’ve failed so many bloody times and learned from my mistakes.
Yes man the absolute best way to play this game is with a guild of cool people that you have fun playing with. I wish you the best of luck

I’d like to point out that the ilvl requirement will vary wildly based on the affixes you have for a given week.

oh most definitely. I’ve noticed that on my DH with this weeks affixes I can take about 40 stacks of Necrotic on +6 before it gets to be too much. Can only assume it will get A LOT WORSE on higher ranks, probably capping at 20-25ish.
Realistically is the key word here
Eh, my friends and I are failing 14s at 205. Might want to change that to skilled friends still
