What changes could we see to brewmaster to actually make them competitive for the average player and not feel super squishy?
In my opinion, just giving us some more armor would make us light years better. It feels bad when my health is bouncing up and down like a blood dk when I’m a monk - the tank who is supposed to have a steady health pool because of stagger.
Bake in SL 4pc and some armory and I think itd be ok. As it stands right now it stresses me out too much to even want to play BRM even if historically I found it fun.
Rerolled BDK since I cant take a step without stepping on a prot war right now.
The reason BrM’s hp bar oscillates so much is twofold:
(1) Blizz is intent on replacing mitigation with self healing. If you look at the PTR changes brew is getting, it’s all self-healing related.
(2) High amount of pre-stagger damage. The only damage that really scares BrM is magic and we SUCK at taking magic hits.
Right now, without high tolerance, my BrM gets 35/70 out/in combat stagger. Last Tuesday, BrM received a magic stagger buff from 35 to 45% of our physical stagger. This means at 395 ilvl, my magic stagger is 15.8/31.5.
Real numbers reference: if a tank buster magic attack for 300k is thrown my way and I purify immediately after getting hit, I can only mitigate 47k. Currently, I have around 370k hp which means I’m down to 117k hp IF I was full before the hit landed.
How to fix Brew without making us crazy OP: give us craploads more hp. If our hp bar is going to yo-yo like a SL VDH, give us the damn hp bar to match.
Reading the 10.0.5 patch official patch notes released today:

Where is it that self healing was buffed? Is this after 10.0.5 that they are changing self heals for brew?
Someone eli5 that this is not as doom and gloom as it feels at face value?

It will be an overall dps nerf, but not by too much. Look at all the other dmg increases.
Give them an external tank cooldown. I’d rather pop a defensive on the bear and blitz across the room for a mechanic than make them do it cause they hit 5 stacks.
Bro did you just have a stroke?
Stop eyeballing your posts about “giving tanks more armor cause it would feel good” they’re not gold.
Not tanks. A tank. Brewmaster. The tank with almost 0 armor. You okay champ?
oh right, they should in fact give armor to the tank with the least armor, why didnt blizz think of this… Keep up the good work.
You mean like Fortifying brew? Or do you mean like Dampen Harm? Or do you mean like Weapons of Order? Or do you mean like Invoke Niuzao, the Black Ox? Or do you mean like Celestial brew? Another tank cooldown like these? Why would you think they need another tank cooldown when they have so many?
Their problem is taking consistent damage, and spiking all the time because of no mitigation.
Yes, it’s a step in the right direction that would take minutes to do. Give back the 10% dr nerf they gave to all tanks would help as well.
I’ll be honest as a Healer, my two hardest specs to heal as Tanks are Brewmaster and Guardian Druids, I personally feel like they are missing a defensive or something, they melt so quickly.
Warriors and DKs seem un killable, they mostly take care of themselves letting me worry more on the dps, yeah you might chuck a heal or two their way, but as a Brewmaster I feel like I need to baby sit them. Which is hard.
They definitely need to be able to take a hit more, be it through more hp or more DR I don’t know but they are difficult to heal especially in M+, outside of my mate who plays Brewmaster, I’d never take one in a key.

All those damage changes are effectively meaningless. Someone in another post surmised, based on total damage done in dungeons and what abilities the damage comes from that it’s a net 5% dmg loss, aka nothing.
The substantial change brew is getting is a reduction of point investment in our spec tree in the name of passive purification and nearly doubling our ox orbs by adding the new Spirit of the Ox talent.
If Staggering Strikes scaled better and Quick Sip was double the passive clear, these could be amazing.
Brew is not hurting at all in the area of clearing staggered damage, even now while nobody takes SS or QS. What we do need help with is mitigating damage that can’t be staggered.

I agree with a few others in this thread, only way to make BrM ‘feel’ better would be to either stack our HP to the moon or change the way stagger works so it just eats more of the up front damage.
they need to add back the 10% damage reduction and make magic staggered at a 50% rate

They need to remove some def and offen cds and turn them into passives. Brew is too button bloated.

I would be fine with magic stagger going to 50% for sure. We’ll see how brew survives with the 45% stagger change. If we could just get some kind of way to keep the incoming damage less spike related.
Keep in mind this is still 45% effectiveness of your current stagger rate rather than a full 10% increase; it’s about 6.5% increase if your typical in combat stagger is 65%. Baby steps I guess.

Realistically what they should do is completely change how Stagger is calculated.
Since they moved it to Agility based Brewmaster have been bad at the start of an expansion and overpowered at the end of the expansion.
They also need to get rid of several buttons. At this point Dampen Harm and Diffuse Magic should be merged.
