Real talk about integrating to consoles

Shareholders make gambles all the time.
That’s just part of investment.

I’m sure many have made the gamble of short-term loss for long term gains with expanding PC games to console in the past — What matters for WoW is the cost in juggling its complexity & the work load it’d require to execute the ordeal entirely.

When it comes down to it, in simple terms it’s:

  • Time
  • Assets
  • Money
  • Sustainability
  • and appeal

By appeal, I mean how the projected fruits to bear from such work would be & continue to work onward for the future.

… However, if any of the above is jeopardised it makes a mess of the whole situation in which case like you said → It’s probably not going to happen.

Hm. They wouldn’t need to redesign everything, they’d just have to absorb the means to acquire mods into the game itself in a similar way to how you can download (some) Skyrim mods on Xbox, though that would be trickier when it comes to Weakauras specifically because you’d be able to likely obtain the main add-on but each individual weakaura would be harder to pull in while something like DBM would be simpler.

The ease-of-access for mods would obviously be one of the main point against console ports, as well as communication.

You can’t make a game playable on console and exclude people from all content.

Not without seriously dumbing the game down so that it would be able to be played on console. They already did that once and it almost killed the game. If they dumbed it down to console levels the game would die flat out.

Again you can’t provide a game and exclude people from the high end based on console.

It means you still aren’t playing those specs effectively.

On Aff I have three macros to cast dots on my focus target.

Focus agony
Focus siphon life
Focus corruption
Focus kick

That’s not even including mouse over macros.

You’re hurting yourself and your raid team by using a controller.

I can keep up my DoTs up on Aff without using Focus macros and managed parses from 80-100 percentile as Affliction over several expansions… You don’t need focus macros to play Aff effectively.

Mouseover functionality is one thing I will concede that you would be missing, though you don’t need macros for them anymore since it can be enabled for spells by default since Dragonflight launched, so being able to play any spec currently with 30 keybinds still stands.

I admire the level of prediction you people have.

How would you even start to know if it would die out or not?

Is this like when people said Classic would kill the game? Or when people said more alt-friendly stuff would make people get bored and leave?

I’m ok with the game being on console as long as they put a little symbol next to people’s names in the group finder indicating they’re playing on a controller.

Maybe in ST but in two target cleave it makes it much easier.

You’re still not playing optimally.

Mouseovers as well as controller turning is sub optimal movement no matter how you look at it.

It’s fine in heroic but I’d never take it into mythic.

Real eyes realize real lies.

I don’t want wow on consoles. If they ever make wow from ground up it wont be the same game, probably won’t have same success and I probably won’t play it.

Were you not here for the mass exodus of players from WoD when the game was dumbed down and catering to bad players the most?

The great pruning almost killed the game.

The majority of players were not happy hence why the unpruning happened.

It’s why they reverted back to big talent trees instead of the basic 6
Talent choices with 3 options for each.

The difference is the great pruning almsot didnkill the game. I’d youndumbed the game down to allow controller play in betting a lot of players would quit.

Some people actually like a challenge.

“The Great Pruning”

People talk about WoD like my grandparents talked about the great depression. Can’t have been a good time. Glad I missed it.

I imagine people lining their characters up and holding their hands out saying “Can I please have another content, sir?”

The game was dumbed down in Cataclysm, not WoD. Every class had the same abilities and PVE had nothing but tank and spank crap. WoD had the removal of abilities, but each class was different. Also, PVE actually had stuff for people to do.

It is a limited way of thinking when you think more buttons is the only way to apply challenge to something. It is also limited to think the ratio from quitters vs new players would be bad for the game.

I’m all for challenges, but I reached 3k this season by pressing little more than 6 or 7 abilities. :stuck_out_tongue:

WoD is considered the worst expansion for good reason lol.

It had a tier longer than 9.0 of SL while having mediocre zones.

The pruning was a big reason a lot of people quit.

Incorrect. Cataclysm still had 50+ talent trees. The WoD prepatch is when talents were dumbed down.

WoD is the worst expansion for a reason.

It’s the reality. People like having tools to deal with certain situations.

You sound like you pugged/soft carried to 3k.

Even then 3k isn’t really something I’d brag about. Especially this season.

It is cool you don’t know much about programming.

You either talk about ability pruning or talents. Pick one, my boy.

WoD is the worst expansion because everybody saw through their lazy “let’s get this dumb idea out of the drawer so we can invest more time on making Legion great”.
It has nothing to do with PVE. I have never had to pay as much attention to fights as I did in WoD’s glory active mitigation days.

“I am this, therefore all people are this.”

Sure I pugged. I don’t have a closed group. Not the point.
Sure, 3k isn’t much. Again, not the point.
Do you have anything to say about the point itself?

The amount of people that don’t realize you can use a keyboard and mouse on consoles is rather disturbing lol. Game just has to be programmed to use them.

Biggest hurdle are the mods, because of course it is lol.

Or I can talk about both as talents and pruning were part of WoD.

WoD is the worst
Expansion because of that but mostly
Because of the pruning.

That you played a class to 3k io and only had to push a few buttons?

Free carry’s in pugs happen all the time.

Pugged a 22 rise last night and the DK dps and the healer were pretty much carried the entire time.

I do realize. I used to use MNK on PlayStation for fps games.

Still doesn’t change the fact that most people who play consoles prefer controller.
