This isn’t a troll post, I am very interested in the thoughts on this.
I was a strong WoW player when the game released, my apex of fun was beating the Lich King and I got turned off during Cata, left, but came back to try Mists and Warlords and left for good.
Fast Forward to TWW hype and I see Chris M is back, there’s a lot of taglines about now is the time to come back! Be prepared for a 3 part sweeping story and more!
I get very interested because I like WoW more in the “old days”. With the Chris M hype I was hopeful. I examined classes/talents on sites prior to the release and was surprised to see so full and vibrant talent trees like in the old days and was nostalgic and thought maybe this WAS a good time to get back in. What if the story was as captivating as (for me at least) the Lich King! What if the end game was as deep as the talent trees and the intensity of the old days was back! I got hyped. I bought TWW.
Long story short - I don’t get it…I’d like to try to understand what I’m missing.
After leveling my 2 main chars from 60 to 80, getting geared to ilvl580, and doing all the quests on the map, heroic dungeons, searching for treasures, etc - I was “done” and it’s only been a week. It’s not the time/content that’s my biggest concern (it is a concern however) - it’s that this seems incrementally different at most from when I left back in Warlords.
I was pleasantly surprised by how polished the interface and game is. So many things I recall being from addons were already default in the game. Adjusting your frames, so much dungeon, boss info/help, screen alerts - was a crazy upgrade. But that’s most likely been there a while and not new to the real WoW players.
So my question is - what EXACTLY is the new “stuff” that Blizzard felt they were touting for this expansion to be THE expansion to come back to? I was their exact target demo and I DID come back - and I feel like I don’t get why?
What was I coming back to that supposedly “different/new/exciting/worth the return”?
It simply feels like any other expansion, a sprinkling of new systems, a (sadly typical) new story, but nothing that felt like the overall direction Blizzard has been taking with WoW had fundamentally changed in any interesting way?
Please let me know what you think as to what I missed?
