Reagent Bank Issue - Pronunciation

Hey everyone,

My friend and I are having an argument on how to pronounce “reagent” in your bank tab.

I think it is pronounced: “ree - a - jent”
He thinks it is pronounced: “ree - jent”

Let me know what you guys think!

i’ve always said the latter, “re - gent”

The word is basically “re-agent.” Pronunciations in dictionaries show:

ree · ay · jnt

Why would you use dictionaries when you have the General Discussion forums? Silly goose.

I think you guys have too much time on your hands. Who cares?

It took me all of 30 seconds to link that stuff. lol

Different people care about different things. If this is the conversation he had with his friend, I’m not going to judge.

Fatstacks and his friend, weren’t you paying attention?

It’s ree-a-jent.

Ree-jent is a person who governs in the stead of a child inheritence or ruler unable to attend to those duties at that time.

This is technically the correct way. Ree-a-jent.

I had mandatory chemistry in the 8th grade in Idaho, which has the worst education system in the country. Do you not go to school?

You are correct. Surprised you’re getting an argument as it’s basic middle school chemistry stuff.

Woa, they def don’t let middle schoolers around a chem lab where i live. Hell i didnt get chem until sophmore year and i was in all of the gifted and talented/accelerated tracks. Even then I learned the word “reagent” from pnp d&d lol

Seventh grade here. Most of us were farm/mountain kids who were already driving and using lot’s of chemistry IRL already though.

two different things entirely:

  1. Reagent- a substance or mixture for use in chemical analysis or other reactions.
  2. Regent - a person appointed to govern a state for a limited period of time

Your friend is referring to a person of political significance, you’re referring to chemical compounds.

Surprised this one is even a question. Usually I find the pronunciation argument is over the word “niche,” and people get unreasonably angry about it.

I agree with your pronounciation, wry eh gent.

Why would people argue over the pronunciation of “nick-he”.

I kid, I kid…
