Reading From Memory

Hello!

I do not know if this is the correct forum for this, but I do have a quick question about reading from WoW’s memory.

I have an old Logitech G15 keyboard that I love but it is long since end of life and the LCD display no longer works with WoW. Previously it would display stats in real time (relatively static items like Health, Str, Agi, Crit, etc). It appears the former applet, which had Blizzard’s blessing 20 years ago, read from memory to accomplish this. Nothing will be modified or written.

I have gotten mixed answers on whether or not Warden will flag this as a violation of the ToS.

I would like to re-create a simple applet to replicate the former one. Is this permissible?

Unfortunately, Blizzard’s reps who sometimes pass through here won’t be able to give you a solid answer on that. If they say yes, you could build something the developers don’t want players to use. It would also open the door for a lot of other requests seeking validation.

Just being able to read certain things from memory, is enough to be used for exploitation.

Unless Blizzard comes out and explicitly states that it’s allowed, the answer is no.

Reading from WoW.exe’s game memory likely falls under the cheating section of the EULA:

any code and/or software, not expressly authorized by Blizzard, that can be used in connection with the Platform and/or any component or feature thereof which changes and/or facilitates the gameplay or other functionality;
