Just reactivated a very old WotLK account. I made and played a trial account during Legion. Old characters won’t appear at all on the main, old WotLK account.
The active account is definitely the old one, I bought BfA, SL, have game time.
I followed FAQ instructions to create a character on the correct server, exit game and battlenet, and delete the cache.
Has this ever happened to anyone? A search hasn’t turned any up.
Hey, Timbat! Checking the account here, I’m only seeing a level 6 and a few level 1s on the WoW1 account. The Legion starter account has a level 14, 12, and a few lower levels created a few years ago.
It doesn’t look like this is the old WotLK account. We’ll want to dig more and gather some information to help with locating the account and old characters. This is not something we assist with on the forums due to security and privacy concerns. Could you contact our customer support team with any relevant information like character names, realms?
If I don’t want to lose progress I’m making right now, should I stop playing and wait until the correct account is linked?

Weird though, maybe I didn’t follow a proper procedure for linking my previous WoW account during the bnet transition years ago or something, but there was no indication of any problem.
I only ever had the one WoW account back in the day, and when bnet transitioned to accounts like unsane#1631 it looked like WoW was still connected. Though I never played it. I played on a 2nd/trial account a few years back like y ou listed, but that’s it.
So I guess right now I bought expansions for and activated a “3rd” account and should stop progressing, since I’ll lose all progress once we find my real account? A bit sad since my support ticket says it takes average 3 days and 6 hours for a (initial) response, let alone resolution.
I’d advise to wait until our team can look into this further and help with recovering the account. The progress would still be there, but we’d want to help with recovering the old account if you only wanted to play there with some of your old characters 
That’s usually the maximum wait time when the issue is submitted. The typical wait time should be a bit less than that and it may vary for certain issues. Hopefully, our team can help with this as soon as possible.

The only thing I’m wondering: is it possible to know which other realms I had characters on?
I’m aware of Sargeras and Shadowmoon.

I see the account recovered here now You may not be able to login to some characters, but you should see your characters on these realms: Sargeras, Tichondrius, Shadowmoon, Trollbane, Silver Hand, Firetree, Executus, and Azjol-Nerub. Some of them only have some low level characters or level 1’s, but most of your high level characters should be on the realms you mentioned.
