The Zombie Plague ended “early” – in the original 2008 design, the Zombie Plague was meant to last a lot longer and end at roughly the same time the Plague Cure questlines became available. However, due to the initial reaction to the event and how disruptive it was, it was ended significantly earlier than originally intended during pre-patch in 2008. This truncated duration is still reflected in our data and our intent for Wrath Classic was to adjust it to have it last for a full week. This was unfortunately overlooked and was another mistake.
Okay? Unfortunately overlooked?
I mean that’s it, gone again forever.
It was just getting good too, the unique experience of it ramping up into absolute mayhem and hopelessness to really set in how big a threat the Lich King is. But instead, suddenly back to normal. LK changed his mind, world isn’t ending!
Though it’s stuck in pretty much Phase 3, it’s still going on Bloodsail and Mankrik, at least for another 45 minutes! We’ll see if it’s still-still going once the servers come back up. So anyone who wants some last memories of the event feel free to roll on either of those servers real quick and have some last-minute fun!
Good riddance. Some people may enjoy it, but others like me find it annoying. I mean, I am glad that you got your chance to see it again. I’m also glad it’s gone. Buh-bye
Specifically say in the event announcement that they know they ended the event early the first time, and pledge to run it for a full seven days this time.
Don’t actually check what the timeline is in the code.
“Huh, the plague is progressing quicker than it should be and the invasion points popped up ahead of schedule… weird…”
On like 99% of the server (Mankrik), I haven’t seen any zombie activity since it started - no invasion at all to repel, can sit afk at the mailbox or AH with little worry.
Yet it also didn’t end like all the other servers, so players having ‘fun’ have been able to go purposefully get infected, then go and disrupt gameplay by killing NPCs in areas with no zombie activity.
Yea, hasn’t been super annoying on mankrik because people never went crazy with it, it’s more of a laugh than anything, like “where’s the flight master? Oh yea!”
Yeah I understand. On Bloodsail our RP “Defenders” kept things locked down pretty tight and are good at what they do, so aside from a few stray outbreaks (largely organized by our server’s premier Zombie King and expert) the Phase 3 version of this event was not much of a problem. I even took my “Survivor” characters into Stormwind multiple times because there just wasn’t anything happening. Just some roachies to squish (with a pet). lol
Very true. But to tell you the truth I got really sick really quick of seeing people blaming the “whiners” for the event ending early. Just like people blame the players for mega servers and queue times. There’s a lot more “whining” about RDF and queues than there were about zombies and Blizzard hasn’t done jack about that. So why the illogical conclusion that Blizzard ended the event early because of “whiners?” It’s not like everyone doesn’t know by now that Blizzard can’t get anything right.
