Re‑ignite Frost Mage PvE: Buff Deep Freeze + Quality‑of‑Life Changes Needed

Hey Blizzard team & fellow mages,

Frost Mage once reigned supreme in Mists of Pandaria, consistently landing in the top 3–5 DPS specs throughout Phase 1. Falling slightly behind in later phases. But still competitive to be sure. At this point. Frost is not an option on the table for any serious pve players. to me? That is very sad.

Many of us still remember the fluid rotations and dominance of Frostbolt + Icicle Mastery during that era…
*Fast forward to today: Frost is barely scraping the bottom in current expansions . It’s baffling—this is the only expansion where Frost shined in both PvP and PvE, yet it’s been relegated to a niche spec and borderline unplayable in PVE. We’re missing out on a cohesive frost experience if this continues.

My suggestions as a player with over 2 decades of experience in both speed running guilds and top rank pvp.

1. Deep Freeze PvE Damage Buff
Many mobs and bosses are immune to stun, rendering Deep Freeze nearly useless in PvE. We need it to hit hard when used on resilient targets—either through increased base damage or enhanced scaling.

2. Overhaul Frost Mastery for PvE
Mastery: Icicles and related procs are weak against unfrozen targets. A more universal version of the mastery would boost all frost damage against enemies affected by any frost ability—not just CC’d ones.
Reddit voices echo this sentiment

4. Fingers of Frost Quality of Life
To support core Frost gameplay, smaller QoL tweaks could go a long way:

Add a second FoF charge (as some players advocate) to reduce lottery in rotations.
Reduce Frostbolt cast time when FoF is active (proposed +10% proc & −1 s cast)

Why This Matters

  • Legacy and Identity: Current expac breaks tradition: Mages cycle through strong PvE specs (Fire/Arcane). Let’s avoid repeating that and empower Frost again in this expansion. Maybe make it bis for a whole expac for once? like actually for the first time in the history of the game?

Balanced Power: We don’t want Frost to dominate PvP. These PvE‑only buffs—like Deep Freeze damage, glyphs, mastery tuning—won’t threaten PvP if scoped correctly.

Player Experience: Frost’s identity as a proc‑heavy, bursty style is sharp and engaging—but currently, it’s just under‑performing because of tuning, not design.

here are some other change ideas I had thought about.

Deep Freeze: Add significant base damage (e.g. +150–200%) and/or reduce cooldown when used on stun‑immune bosses

Mastery rework: Icicles or bonus frost damage to all frost targets, not just frozen

FoF tweaks: extra charge or cast‑time reduction

Reduces rotation inconsistency; enhances proc gameplay

In closing: Frost Mage feels like a spec concept turned inside out by narrow mechanics and outdated tuning. We’re asking for PvE‑only buffs that restore Frost’s feel and viability—without overshadowing Fire or Arcane, or upsetting PvP balance.
Let’s bring Frost Mage back to a competitive, enjoyable state in PvE, the way it was in early MOP.

Thanks for listening! I welcome discussion. But pls be nice I am a soft potato.

I agree I think 2 charges of Fingers Of Frost + Deep freeze doing damage again could be a enough to bring it back in line with the other classes / Specs that got buffed.
