RDruid Haste DR

Question around diminishing returns for those who understand it better than me. My rdruid currently has 28k haste rating unbuffed and I read that 26k rating is in the 20% DR bucket and that going beyond that is not great. However, when I continue to increase my haste rating the healing values of my spells go up, so my question is wouldn’t I want my spells to be as powerful as they can be by stacking haste beyond the DR rating or should I work to get my haste lower to be around 26k? I’ve switched my enchants/gems to be mastery focused but still sitting pretty high natty on haste.

You seem to be confusing the concept of diminishing return with the concept of a hard cap. What a diminishing return threshold means is that each point above the threshold provides less benefit than each point below the threshold. So each point above the threshold still provides benefit, but the reduced benefit of stat 1 can allow stat 2 to be a bigger benefit once you’re above that threshold. That’s why you’re seeing haste still benefit your heals, but one of the other stats might provide more benefit since you’re already at one of the DR thresholds.

Because the more and more haste you stack, the more diminishing returns you’ll see from it, in two ways:

The first way:
Going from 0% haste to 1% haste will give you 1% more healing done, since your heals will tick 1% faster.
If you go from 100% haste to 101% haste, you only gain .5% more healing done, because, relatively speaking, your heals only tick .5% faster. If you instead put that 660 haste rating toward, say, crit (and, for simplicity, let’s say you currently have 0% crit), you’d gain .94% more healing instead cause you’d gain .94% crit chance from that 660 haste rating you changed to crit.

The second way: When you go beyond 30% haste (from haste rating, not any % haste increases, like from Lycara’s Teachings(Caster form) or Bloodlust), you start getting less haste % from haste rating beyond that point.

From 0 to 30% (0-19800 rating), there’s no DR.
From 30% to 39% (19800-26400 rating), there’s 10% DR.
From 39% to 47% (26400-33000 rating), there’s 20% DR.
From 47% to 54% (33000-39600 rating), there’s 30% DR.
[It’s unrealistic to get beyond here outside of enchant and trinket proc stacking, but I’m including the others for completeness]
From 54% to 66% (39600-46200 rating), there’s 40% DR.
From 66% to 126% (46200-132000 rating), there’s 50% DR.
Beyond 126%, there’s 100% DR and you cannot increase the stat any further via rating.

Thank you for breaking it down!

Sim your character on QE live. It takes stat weights into account, DRs. You don’t need to guess at it. Supply it gear options in Top Gear from your simc addon, it will give you the best combination of gear, enchants and gems for healing output, at least from a raid healing perspective.
