RDF killed wow (again)

First time it was implemented it “killed wow”, and now second time around…not having it is “killing wow.”

haha what a time to be alive.

Adding it originally never killed wow. There were dozens of other changes combined with bad expansions that lead to a decline.

For many it did.

Well it couldn’t have been too many because the population continued to grow after it was added.

I am indifferent.

Not really. It was widely loved the first time around too. Wrath being shut down is what killed WoW the first time.

That’s like saying policies didn’t harm an economy because it continued to grow for a period of time after implementation

No it isn’t.

lol. it wasn’t RDF. It was the entire expansion. Player count largely flatlined compared to the large growth prior to that. It started the whole “new school” vs “old school” MMO difference.

Yes it is. It’s a totally fallacious and bad argument. It’s exactly what you’re saying.

It did kill wow. Every one expected ezstreet dungeon romps. People would queue up for random dungeon, end up in halls of reflection or OCC, drop out of the dungeon and then the dungeon finder would spend another 20mins to find a group before that group would also just drop out of the dungeon when they realized which one it was.

Then that group of extreme casuals hit Cata dungeons and messed their pants and quit because it made them realize they were not good at the game.

For one quarter which was also one of Blizzard’s smallest quarter ever.

After that, we’ve only seen the game trend downwards for 15 years, with RDF being one of the few constants still remaining today.

You do the math, if you can.

All this says to me is you didn’t actually play Wrath.

Did play it, playing since beta. Did you play it? rather than hard res or soft res what kind of res system was most commonly used in wrath?

Meanwhile, the overall population is thriving and the highest it’s been in the history of Classic…

If you had you would know people cheered when they got a random ICC 5 man, because they knew they’d get good gear. They gave higher ilevel rewards.

No, it did not. RDF no more killed WoW than flying or battle masters or queuing for BGs from your interface. Dungeons are only a portion of the WoW experience. It doesn’t diminish your social interactions AT ALL.

Well, look at Battlegrounds, it’s a good case in point, because it doesn’t diminish social relationships that matter on a realm. Sure, everyone can bring up “that one guy” that they know, the ninja looter who stole his stuff. But I think your real community isn’t the whole realm, but it’s your guild and the friends you group with, and the cross-server LFG won’t undermine that at all. The Dungeon Finder – by the way, I think we just renamed it the Dungeon Finder last night – We designed it in such a way that it serves the need for guilds and groups and friends. You don’t have to always [join a Pick-Up Group]. If there are four guildies in a group who just need a fifth, they can do that. You can also use it if even you have a full five-person party.

Or, you can do it if you’re on your own and just want to run something, so I don’t think it diminishes it at all" -Rob Pardo
