Kalecgoes, Malygos, and the Blue dragons use arcane magic not frost and ice. I mean Aluneth’s entire questline is drawing arcane magic from the blue dragons.
I completely forgot we go to free the Storm Dragons.
So yeah…Razageth would’ve been better 10 fold.
Only reasoning I can think of, is if they thought Vyranoth’s Ice would be a better Dynamic for the ONE cutscene where she stops Fyrak’s Fire from hurting the Green Dragon.
But like, Wind could’ve pulled the fire away too…
EDIT:
Have they said this yet though?
Nothing I’ve seen post raid even implies she is the Aspect of the Protos, or Aspect of the Unincluded Flights so to speak.
Just that she is Aspect of Primal Ice.
Which the Book for the War of the Scales. Talks about Vyranoth became a Primalist Power by absorbing INTENSE amounts of Primal Ice magic.
im still hung up that we never got to see Raszageth’s visage form tbh
but I agree with your points. But “Storm” has always been, at least in Blizzard’s history, associated with frost before wind. Heroes of the Storm is referencing a snowstorm, after all. A Blizzard.
As much as I would’ve liked Raszageth as a 6th aspect for the sake of aesthetic variation (and ngl, would’ve been pretty awesome having a character go through that drastic of a 180 between the start and end of the expansion), it seems a bit poetic that the aspect of “Storms” is one that represents a Blizzard. The Storms of Outland, the storms of stormheim, and the flight of snow-storm proto dragons (and all others) all hail to her. I’d go so far as to say that creative decision is a team-wide self-insert for the new blood at Blizzard, who are helming WoW for the next generaiton.
I still stand by Raszageth being by far one of the cooler villains in the post-legion era. Just like comics, nobody ever truly stays dead anymore… maybe except Garrosh who is double-dead, & Arthas who is triple-dead lol.
It would have been nice if her changing sides was a bit more fleshed out and we got a bit more than “trust me, bro” after her private conversation with Alex.
I can’t remember where I read this, and if it was even from an actual credible source, but apparently her Visage form was going to look like a Drustvar Witch/Hag. Which definitely matches her voice and demeanor imo
Would’ve been cool if she lived within a hairline from death, and joined Vyranoth upon realizing her brothers weren’t seeking freedom, but just total annihilation. Then at the very end, Vyranoth sacrifices herself to save Rasz from Fyrakk, and just like that, the psychotic expansion-launch villain has gone from crazy lunatic to conflicted anti-hero turned freedom advocate.
But I’m not too miffed about this outcome, still pretty cool either way.
Viranath’s ice magic is primal. The blue’s ice magic is arcane based. In any case she is needed as an aspect because she is STILL a primalist at heart but a resonable and uncorrupted one. She adds a bit of chaos into the Council of the Aspects to balance out their strict order. With so many hints of evil light I get the idea is that WoW are going for an “extremism is bad” path.
Vyranoth can put a lot under her wings. She represents all the minor dragonflights, can attract shamans to prevent them from, trying to let the Firelands invade Azeroth, indirectly support the rebellious Titan Freja that created the Emerald Dream that now sustain Aspectal powers to all the dragon Aspects including Vyranoth herself. Freja as a Titan was obviously a champion of LAW as well but not to a harmfully extreme level. In D&D terms Freja was probably Neutral Good or a Lawful Good that put Good before law.
