Assuming there is either a quest to complete or one I may have missed at some point over my 20 years. i have the peculiar key in my bag and the torch equipped as well. Any help would be great.
You want the quest forums the blues dont help on the secrets part.

The only quests I can think of that take place at that specific location are the Artifact acquisition quests for Unholy DK, Balance Druid, & Affliction Warlock.
If you are not in the middle of one of those quest chains, then most likely they would not be causing the issue.
With that being said, I have heard multiple reports of people who have been unable to enter the Catacombs.
Try relogging, leaving the area, disabling and re-enabling your Torch once there. You can also try using a different war mode status (i.e., if you are out of war mode, then turn it on & vice versa).

What about the old secrets that took u to the catacombs a few expacs ago.
Make sure you have your detective title on too

And I would advise to use the Warcraft Secrets site to make sure you haven’t skipped any steps. These guys are amazing at figuring this stuff out and then making it much easier for us Mere Mortals.

Thanks all for the advice!! Giving it all a try! I will report back if I figure it out.
I assume you have the detective title and the gem from Ratts and that you have the torch and the buff from it is active? Without all three you cannot access the area. If your torch buff wears off reactivate it or you also cannot enter.
I have the same problem. Nothing works! Did you ever solve the issue?
Same for me. 
• Detective title on.
• Key in bag
• Torch out
I see a double gate.
I see other players enter (they clearly doesn’t see/have the double gate/doors).
I tried to old trick to die and enter while a ghost but it didn’t work.
Just to ask the obvious question. Everyone is attempting to enter the gate on the ground level, correct?
Not a long term solution but if you know a friendly warlock, they can set up their demonic gateway so you can bypass the wooden door. I just did that for my wife who also has a blocked wooden door for whatever reason.
