Wow is such an old game I think people that have been playing for years on and off just expect that everyone has the same game knowledge.
Jumping into this game now is pretty confronting, lots of classes, specs, abilities, keybinds and addons to get used to. Its not surprising theres that much toxicity when elitists gatekeeping all game modes
Only time I ever ‘shame’ someone is when I cap alts and there is the guy with 2k games played at 2k rating blaming his teammates when he has every button available.

Nice selection of shooters. I was honestly surprised with Walther strikers, the ergonomics on every one of them I’ve shot has felt really nice.
I’m a little more old school when it comes to carry guns. I usually CC a S&W 686+ with elk shed grips. I’m big on revolvers and 1911 platforms.

So I was doing some RSS with my hunter and we had this disk doing DPS, but he forgot to heal, so I’m slowly dying and I was behind him but no healing… I ended up dying then I said:
“If those discs stopped being DPS and focused on their hole which is healing…”
Then the poor guy sent this whisper with his glad arch…

Like, so what? What does it matter how many games it took me to get to 1990? The point is I got there. Not all of us are super gifted players and need time to figure things out and learn.
We should be cheering/congratulating each other. Not shaming someone because it took them longer to get to a higher rating.
some people dont deserve it tho, u think people playing over tuned classes deserve it? we should make the game lame and boring then and all roll fotm, in order to ensure class diversity people should be shamed when bragging about reaching 1800 on rogue or mage or dh or something… we should give more attention to the enhancement shamans reaching 1800 rather then classes that almost anyone can.
I really don’t think the ELO style of rating is working for WoW anymore (maybe it never did). People get discouraged when they can’t achieve the ratings they’re used to in a low participation season and quit; blaming balance, the expansion, their teammates, etc… This results in a negative participation spiral: Less people means ratings are lower on average, which causes people to give up and quit when they can’t get to their usual rating.
Perhaps progression from other games, like Hearthstone, would work better. Where you progress by getting x more wins than losses. So you might move up a rank after going 5-0, 10-5 or 30-25. Then once you get to a certain rank it shows your number on the leaderboard (like Elite+ for WoW).
I’m not super familiar with Hearthstone so I don’t know the downsides of their system, but rewarding players in WoW for a rating that is inflated based on high overall participation clearly isn’t working.
With online pvp, you will never win if someone is annoyed or frustrated at you (or better yet, themselves)
If you are higher rated than them, you either bought your account or got carried or rolled fotm and carried by an easy class
If you are lower rated you’re a hardstuck noob that will never be good
If you’re the same rating then its that it took you X amount of games played to get to that rating
challenger, duelist, glad, doesn’t matter you get treated the same by others, you will never impress people by climbing rating so just play for fun and for yourself
