Instead of getting rid of RoP, Why not make it baseline and make talents to augment and change how it works like the 40% but standing 8yards to get the buff, or make RoP apply to your character allowing movement for the duration when activated, but comes with a decrease in damage % in return for the mobility, and lastly maybe for another option have RoP echo spells or something else interesting. Make RoP a choice on how it should be played depending on the content and encounter.
At this point there have been dozens of suggestions on how better to handle it. It ultimately comes down to what Blizzard wants and is willing to listen to. My personal belief is that Blizzard doesn’t even pay attention to the forums. If we want real change, we need to take it to Twitter or Reddit. That seems to be the only platform they listen to and respond on.
Rather than adjusting an annoying talent, we should move its power into the class. Up until Mists of Pandaria, every mage spec could stand on its own feet without any added power talents needed. Our nukes all hit for a decent amount baseline. When they added the level 100 talents, it was the first time I ever regretted playing a mage. They did not add any fun to the class and made our spells hit for a lesser amount than before unless we had the Rune of Power, Invocation, or Incanter’s Flow buff up. I really hate that people are defending Rune of Power and that Blizzard is insisting on keeping it around.
well the way fire and arcane are designed they are burst classes and RoP is almost necessary to do any reasonable damage, so either you give them something else comparable or change the way both classes play entirely. Fire tbh the playstyle is great since mage I feel does need a fast paced spec, Arcane definitely needs some reworks but I don’t think getting rid of RoP solves its core issues.
That’s the problem IMO. Rune needs to die in a fire and that damage needs to be spread out in the base abilities. It sucks hitting like a wet noodle outside of cooldowns.
both of these specs at least since Wod/Legion have functioned as burst classes that only do damage during cooldowns, the only way to fix that issue is a complete class overhaul and tbh fire doesn’t need the overhaul since its the best iteration of the spec, its well designed and tuned to feel smooth. If you just spread out the damage then the cooldowns feel less impactful. I don’t think rune is the problem its the player mentality if the spec doesn’t play how I want it to and my preferred playstyle is not the best then I don’t like it. There are 21 other specs in the game that might suit your preferences if you want something that has more baseline damage.
I disagree. If the specs can change into something I dislike then they can just as easily change back into something I like once more. I’d rather voice my opinion and ask for change then to simply walk away from the class.
Well its kind of at this point in the build unlikely to do a complete overhaul of how mages play not that it can’t be changed, but most likely not whether you voice your opinions and concerns. The point of this post was to make a small tweak to a talent choice and make it more viable with options that have pros and cons that shift to the content and encounter that you are doing. Just like how some people don’t like the talent and the playstyle it brings to mages, there are just as many who do enjoy it.
How about no? I mean at this point ROP is already a mandatory talent and there are enough players who dislike it to the point that they won’t touch a Mage, so I don’t see how making something that the player base dislikes into a baseline ability will do anything other than make even more players leave.
There are enough threads regarding ROP at this point, and Blizzard has made it pretty clear they aren’t going to fix the underlying issues of power imbalance or CD stacking.
Except that a lot of those are melee, so nothing like Mage. Over the last few expansions due to poor Mage gameplay I have tried different Warlock specs, Boomy and Ele and they’re not any better. There’s a reason why I tended to come back to Mage and it was 100% gameplay not just raw numbers. So sadly for a lot of players the “go play a different class” isn’t really what we want. The reality is that for many, if Mages don’t look fun to play we simply won’t play at all.
Arcane is fine and looking to be a blast in DF.
Braindead arcane where you only spam arcane blast is probably never going to come back. I suggest classic if thats the playstyle you want.
Nah I’ll just keep asking for what I want thanks.
Then feel free to keep wasting your time.
Will do!
… and the world will be a much better place for it. Literally the worst iteration of Arcane since the game was implemented.
Agreed. I’m just surprised someone is actually wanting it back.
I am also surprised people have a problem with arcane orb when thats actually something arcane mages have wanted baseline since forever
I legit said that earlier in the thread lol.
The person hating it doesn’t seem to do group content.
The problems with RoP are the following:
-
RoP is not fun. It emphasizes stationary “gun-turret” gameplay.
- Pre-RoP, gameplay was all about shoot-n-scoot. We were fragile, but mobile. We avoided damage. We didn’t gun turret.
- RoP forces all mages to gun-turret during the most important part of their rotation.
- Gun turreting isn’t fun, especially with today’s encounter mechanics which require so much movement.
- RoP also makes all three mage specs feel too similar, since the centerpiece of the burn phase for all 3 specs is the same ability: RoP.
…
-
RoP is a required talent
- It is so powerful, mages do not have a viable alternative and must take it.
- Required talents are bad. The whole point of talent trees is to give players actual choice, not just a pretend illusion of one.
Making RoP baseline solves the second problem, but does nothing for the first: ROP IS NOT FUN!
From what I see people who dislike RoP tend to not do group content like higher end M+ and mythic raiding, if you’re not doing higher difficulty content why care about RoP, just go play the other talents.
