Who do you think is a better character, and why?
I prefer Rastakhan because he’s interesting.

When you put it like that, …
Talanji is still alive though.
You can still have a good character even if they’re dead.
This might be a close one. Because Rasta can inspire people from beyond the grave, but Talanji could totally burn some sage or call one Ghostbuster and hes gone.
rasthakan.
why?
BWONSANDIIIIIIIIII!!!
pass me the salt.
Talanji is fine, i would just like if she stops acting like the queen of the world.
Rastakhan was a great character. He had a royal baring fit for a king but he still was flawed like a true person would be. Fighting for and with him is the highlight of BFA for me so far and with how bad the rest of the story is I doubt it will be topped.
Talanji is garbage shes the Troll version of Anduin.
I like Rastakhan more than JainaTL.
Can I say I like both? Because I like both.
I won’t disagree that Rastakhan was ill done to. He was built up not just as a king but as a God King who once held the reins of the world in his hands, his wisdom and guile the stuff of legends, rivaled only by his power and his place of highest honor in the eyes of the Loa. For someone so blessed Rastakhan was time and again made the dupe of a truly shoddy tragedy the likes of which might render the narrator from the Fall of the House of Usher envious.
Talanji, too, is blessed… though not just by the Loa but by the Blizzard writing team. If there is a correct decision to be made it is made by Talanji. If there is insight to be had, it is had by Talanji. If there is sympathy for any player in the Horde’s awful plot line this expansion, then that sympathy lies with Talanji. I get why some might resent this since she is a character that is very much coming out of the blue who has never been mentioned as having any importance before now. Even so, I like that there is at least one character Horde side who has a clear reason for despising and distrusting the Alliance and who has not completely given up on the Horde having any kind of value.
I would have liked Rastakhan to live longer. I look forward to Talanji perhaps having a larger role beyond Zanadalar. These two feelings are not mutually exclusive.
She’s literally just Troll Jaina. Her name even has all of the letters Jaina’s does, but with an additional T and L.
Father who ignores her sagely wise, intelligent, and correct counsel? Check.
People who ignore her sagely wise, intelligent, and correct counsel? Check.
Thrust into the power vaccuum left by her father? Check.
The only one capable of fullfilling that vaccuum? Check.
Has to correct her father’s mistakes? Check.
City raided by the enemy faction? Check.
Obscenely powerful on her own? Check.
I’m resentful that Blizzard thinks we’re stupid enough to buy two previous stories being repeated in the same expansion.
Wtb a third option
Make Rhan’ka the king’s crazed exiled brother.
I agree there are similarities between Talanji and Jaina, and I certainly think they are intentional. But this is the expansion that introduces Talanji and she has to have some kind of story arc. I share your disappointment in Blizzard for re-using so many story beats (Talanji is far from the only or even the most egregious example in MoP 2 Electric Boogaloo).
But the reason I like her is for the potential she represents. She is the first faction leader in the Horde who refuses to be beholden to the Warchief. She has the rich history and traditions of the Zandalari and all the other Troll tribes behind her, and ahead of her she has a very real and solid reason to hate and defy the Alliance going forward.
For perhaps the first time ever Blizzard has a Horde character with an acknowledged grudge against the Alliance who isn’t being written as mustache twirling evil for it. If there is any hope for the faction storyline to have any kind of a satisfying conclusion for the Horde, it lies not in Saurfang, Baine, or Sylvanas, but rather in Queen Talanji.
Oh God I freaking hope not. If thats the way they go Im done with wow.
Agreed.
If I am to be honest, I love how Talanji does have that wit and pride that her father had. Because it’s very rare that’s you see actions echo other members of their family without shoving in references.
But if she becomes Warchief after a single expansion? Then I’ll be done with the Horde.
I preferred Rastakhan’s voice actor, he seemed believable in his flaws, and he had history in the story even if we never saw him before now.
I’m not a fan of Talanji’s voice and I really don’t like protagonists that are powerful out-of-the-box. She makes me think she exists just to be a cheap magical horde mirror of Jaina without any of the player attachment that went along with her development.
I wanted to force myself to like her but I just never got past my first impression of her.
Don’t mistake me in thinking that I support Sylvanas here. No member of the Horde should be loyal to her after WoT and BFL. But this especially made me feel even worse about the Horde. Even as crippled as the Zandalari are, she saw her one race as equal to the entire Horde.
As I said earlier, I think they’re just trying to make Talanji mimic her father a little.
Though her father was not so stupid to say something like this to someone who has an extreme military advantage.
“faction pride”
What bothers me most are the people who justify her extreme power by saying “She’s blessed by the Loa.” Then when it comes to Rastakhan? No comment. The only thing Rastakhan was given by Rezan was increased strength and agility. Not Kratos-like strength, but enough to overpower your average Zandalari brute.
