I was running Stonecore for some more gold and I check the loot for Slabhide and see that I got the Vitreous Stone Drake! I literally gasped for air lol. Couldn’t believe it. Anyone else get rare mounts dropping when you least expect it and/or it’s not your initial goal?

That mount in particular took me in the neighborhood of 200 runs of active farming before he gave it up, so I low-key hate you right now. 
Was doing some stuff with guildies back in MoP and we decided to all three pop in to do Ony for giggles while we were in the area. Mount dropped. I won the roll. I think they’re still mad about it to this day.

Got an island expedition mount on the first and only pvp island I did. I didn’t notice in my bags until like 2 or 3 days later. It’s the one that looks like a bat (bloodgorged something). It was right after the patch though so I’m assuming they just buffed the droprate, I think it’s the first rare mount drop I’ve gotten this xpac

Oh yeah, you guys are going to hate me for this.
So, I used to play a Frost Death Knight during WoD, and planned on playing one in Legion. (I had a serious main identity crisis during Legion) I eventually decided I’d go after Invincible to complete that whole Class Fantasy thing with Frostmourne. So every single week I’d run the raid trying to get the mount to no avail. Then I realized something… I had it set to 25-Man Normal. Upon fixing this error, two weeks into Legion Invasions Invincible dropped.
So… I got Invincible after two tries.

My rogue just started Mechagon today. My first rare kill was Rustfeather. Guess what it dropped … along with two patterns.

I went to kill Malygos because I was bored. Just thought why not. I left the raid and looked in my bags when selling stuff and saw, both the blue and azure drakes had dropped. I already had the azure. I felt bad deleting that. I wish I could have given it to someone else.
Got the raven lord mount on the last character I did that night. I was going to go to bed and though ok, I will do this ONE last run, it won’t drop and I can go to bed. It dropped.
Edit: I got the thundering onyx cloud serpent when I went to farm rep on timeless. And on Saturday I got the Deathchargers Reins from Rivendare while rep farming my BE paladin. I yelled at the screen and said, “Drop your mount you stingy moron!” Next run, it dropped. I saw it briefly flash when the loot window popped up. Made my day.

I got invincible when I was only there for the meta.
Also got the astral cloud serpent when I decided to see if i could solo the vaults in Pandaria. Didn’t know it dropped there.
Also got Hulon first time I went to Timeless Isle and asked a group of people what they were camping by that bridge.

I got invincible completely by accident-Was farming for the pet. I didn’t get the pet 
Another time I was riding by Houlon in Timeless and got a hit on him before he died and got his mount. I didn’t even know at the time he dropped a mount.

I think it was Utgarde Pinnacle I got the drake mount and didn’t notice for a couple of days when I finally got around to cleaning out my bags.

I still have dup mounts on several of my guys for fear the moment I trash them Blizzard will make them tradable. I have an extra brewfest kodo, headless horseman, spawn of Horridon, blue drake, azure drake, and several others.

Got Astral cloud serpent while running in guild group to unlock the MolP raid mount from guild vendor.
Got Sharkbait from freehold when running through some quick m0’s to get the weekly.

I wanted that kodo for so long. I got it on my rogue but wanted it on my hunter. This was before the mount page. I did finally get it on the last day of the event one year. That is my land mount on my dwarf hunter. The Headless Horsemans mount I got on the last day of the event. I had not done any other runs. Friend of mine still has not gotten it.
I want that spawn of horridan mount… that is a nice one.

I got that mount back in the day when the instance could be soloed by hunters. I was jokingly showing off soloing the boss with my hunter at the time and joked to one of my co workers that I would get the mount on the first try. To this day he still hates me cause as soon as I looted the boss and the mount dropped I just kind of cracked up laughing.

I always find rare mounts will drop for you when you are in an instance you are going through not intending on getting them… Like doing the Shadowmourne questline and getting Invincible for the 4th time…

Received Mimiron’s head on my 8th attempt, Polar bear on my 4th attempt. Other than those two most of my raid or dungeon ones have been in the area from 50-100.

I was in Arathi doing world quests, when first I killed one rare when it dropped a raptor mount. Then I killed another rare and that also dropped a raptor mount. Both were completely unexpected and pretty much my luckiest moment in wow.

farmed ICC on my warrior for shadowmourne.
i got to the blood part then gave up because it needed coordinated effort even at 100. in legion, i finally ogt around to asking my guild to help me clear the bag slot. took some shamans and druids and got it done. killed arthas for my first piece of the 50.
so the next few weeks go by and im just in there, maybe not every week but im doing it. i think i had like 35 shards or so, somewhere just past halfway, it was like my 5th week actually being in there, and it dropped.
didnt even flinch. dont even like the mount tbh, but its there
