Mail is the red headed stepchild of WoW armor and has been from day 1.

Sylvannas will be giving one I think? There isn’t any as of now…mail has the least rare anything.
Mail’s problem is fundamentally that only two classes use it so yeah the drop rates would be low (not making DH a mail class to even out armor types was a mistake)

They got the dark shaman, but that’s just well shaman
Even cloth got a special one from that tides dungeon in BFA
Really nothing for hunters/shamans to go insane farming

There’s no real logical reason a DH would wear mail, irl mail armor is actually not lightweight as it seems and limits movement. Leather on the other hand allows you to move freely and agile. They were correct in making us leather users. Also 90% of mail mogs available are ugly so we’d be clowns if that was our option.
I mean if we’re dragging realism, a lorica hamata is going to be way lighter and more flexible than equally protective leather.
There’s also the thing that most mail doesn’t look like chain mails anyway, the iconic tier sets everyone uses for nelves and belves (and that the devs tend to reflect when designing npc gear) are scale armor. Some of them look like literally rawhide and there’s still the fact that pretty much all mail past level 40 is in leatherworking for a reason.
Also for the good farming sets, imo, in general, barring a few exceptions, most mail (esp tier mail) outside of Legion and BC sucks to varying degrees, with a few exceptions like the ally darkshore battlefront set
The predator mail set from WoD is good, too, I guess; I liked it better during the brief window when it didn’t clip on elven ears.

Well hunters often get unique pets made all just for them, plus only class that uses range weapons. And Shamans…well I guess you got totems.

Realistically DH should wear cloth. I mean, their basic outfit is a naked body, blindfold and skirt. No leather, not even shoes
