He keeps despawning on me half-way through killing him. Is he on a timer or something?
AFAIK, the only likely reason is that sharding is occuring, kicking you into a shard where the mob isn’t there.
Why sharding is occuring is a mystery.
Obsidian citadel had many 3 people in it. He was on a bridge and he just went poof on me at 1/2 health. First rare to be doing this to me. Maybe just unlucky.
Well, sharding is the only obvious reason I can think of for a sudden shift in world condition. But the developers don’t share or publicly document other realm management techniques, so who knows?
I think the phase of the Obsidian Citadel that has the world bosses might be the same instance as the default Waking Shores, so if the rest of the zone was busy enough you could be sharded even if there weren’t many players in your immediate vicinity. (I think. Again, Blizzard doesn’t document the details of how zones and server instances are coordinated, so I can only speculate.)
