Rapid Camera Movement with Mouse Causing DCs

For years I’ve had an issue where using right click camera movement but going too fast causes my game to freeze and eventually completely DC.

One workaround I’ve found is that hitting the ‘windows’ key will unfreeze the game and prevent the DC. But obviously this is a terrible work around given how often this can happen during bosses.

It used to be something that happened like once per day but on Cataclysm Classic it has started to happen several times per day. This also happens on all versions of the game so I don’t believe an addon is the problem because I don’t have the same addons on the different versions of the game.

Same PC over the years as well?

If you’re experiencing disconnects (DCs) in World of Warcraft when rapidly moving your mouse to adjust the camera, it’s likely due to a combination of factors related to your system struggling to process the quick camera movements, potentially causing a temporary overload and resulting in disconnects; this is often linked to settings like high mouse sensitivity, “Raw Mouse Input” enabled, or issues with your mouse polling rate being set too high.

Possible Causes and Fixes:

  • High Mouse Sensitivity:

    • Solution: Lower your in-game mouse sensitivity settings in the interface options.
  • Raw Mouse Input (RawMouseEnable):

  • High Mouse Polling Rate:

  • Outdated Drivers:

  • System Performance Issues:

Other Considerations:

  • Addons: Some addons can interfere with camera controls, try disabling them temporarily to see if the issue persists.
  • Network Issues: Check your internet connection for stability and latency issues.
  • Game Settings:
    • Max Foreground FPS: Consider disabling “Max Foreground FPS” in your game settings to prevent potential frame rate spikes.
    • Hardware Acceleration: Ensure hardware acceleration is enabled in your Battle.net settings.

Actually no I built my current PC in July 2023 I’ve been having the issue since at least 2021.

Not sure what Raw Mouse Input is but I will try lowering the polling rate on my mouse since after searching I did see some people suggest this might be an issue.

Same mouse?

Nah 2 different mice but they were both always set to the highest polling rate, only thing that has been the same is one of my monitors, one of my nvme drives (when I built my new PC I just plugged my old drive in and added extras instead of doing a reinstall), and my headphone setup which just uses a standard usb bluetooth adapter and airpods max.
