WARNING: RANT AHEAD. PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK!
As a long time mage main, I think I’ve finally reached my limit. I’m tired of being a second class…class in wow. Yes, yes, herpaderp, mage is OP just look at these m+/raid charts I pulled outta my butt blah blah blah. That’s nice. None of that is relevant here. Moving on:
- Why’d you delete the arcane talent that gives us a temporary speed boost??? Who thought this was a good idea? Do they even play mage? Do they know mage is a class in wow? Or did they just start randomly deleting abilities from classes they didn’t know existed in wow? Must be the latter. It’s the only thing I can think of that would make a reasonable excuse as to why this talent was removed. Do you have any idea of the concept of mage? High mobility was supposed to be the catch cry of the mage class as compensation for their pathetic armour value and anemic HP compared to a warlock. So let’s take a chunk of that away. It’s not like mage is the only class in the entire game that struggles in open world questing compared to any other class due to the aforementioned lack of armour and HP. SMH.
- When’s the last time anybody needed mage utility? Portals? Nope. Handy for old world content…or it used to be. Now we have a dozen different ways to port all over the place. Portals in Daz/Boralus, portals in new Dal, portals in SQ/Org, the HS toys, misc portal items like rings, necklaces, various racials etc etc. Sure, mage portals are slightly more convenient due to no CD. But the writing is on the wall. They just aren’t the trump card they used to be. Hero/lust? What for? Plenty of other classes bring that to the table. No other class has had their core utility diluted to this extent.
- Mobility? What mobility? I know I touched on this before but it deserves reiterating. My DK can outrun my mage. My pally can outrun my DK. And a warlock with burning rush will outrun both of them. These traditional wheelchair classes are now more mobile than a mage. Tell me again why warlock has 30% more HP than a mage??? Turret caster??? Not on my watch they ain’t.
- Pressing 10 buttons to kill something in 5 times the time it takes another class to press 3 buttons to kill something. Why is this even a thing??? Here. Let me press arcane blast (the first of the 30 buttons I need to press to kill a mob) and go prepare a 5 course meal for a family of 4. Ok, meal all prepared, oh, what’s that? Arcane blast is still preparing to cast? Ok. I’ll start on their deserts. You call me next week when it’s finished casting, ok? This is what it feels like to play any of the 3 mage specs in open world, meanwhile roll-his-face on his keyboard Jimmy over here, just pressed spinning crane kick with no cast time and no cd (as brm) a couple times and the mob died about 3 years ago. Something is wrong in the state of Verona.
- Armour. Where is it? have you seen it? Was it armour that is currently trapped on the ISS? Is that we can’t find it? I guess the astronauts made it home after all. But somebody should probably tell them they left mage armour behind. We kinda need that down here on Earth…errr…Azeroth. Mage is a class that is supposedly the glass canon. Only blizz deleted the canon and kept the glass. You’d honestly need to buff all mage damage by about 50-100% to bring them into line with all the other classes in the game. Why am I wiping my butt on my keyboard and seeing my warr/dk/pally/monk/DH etc, rolfmaowtfbbq into a pack of mobs in open world and completing the WQ in approximately 3 nanoseconds, when my mage has to slow pull mobs one by one half the time or have 50% of our HP go poof???
- Why am I able to cook a 300 course degustation menu for 50 restaurants across 8 countries in the time it takes to do a thing on mage??? Oh what’s that? You did a thing? That’s nice. Now sit on your butt on the ground eating your mana buns for the next 3 hours to regain your HP, meanwhile every other class in the game just cast a 2 nanosecond heal spell/some other random ability/didn’t take enough damage to begin with to need healing and move on and kill all the other mobs and be half way across the map before you even finished the WQ. Yea. Because that feels good as a player. Amirite?
- Oh, what’s that? You found a rare? That’s cool. How much HP that rare got? Oh. 40mill HP huh. Well guess what? You’re screwed. So you sit there and /1 into the void whilst you wait for one of the chad classes to deign to help you cause you ain’t doing bupkis by yourself, sonny jim. You just sit there and afk while you reflect on your mistake of playing this inferior class. Oh look at that. A [insert any class with a tank spec or pet spec or a cheese priest] just arrived. Guess they’ll solo it now. Yay for…you???
- Just use your CC you noob! Oh. What’s that? Your cc don’t work on basically every mob in the game you actually would need to use it on (frost nova go brr…errr…nvm, frost nova just did absolutely nothing at all rolfmaowtfbbq). Well then. I guess we’re all just gonna laugh at the fact that you can’t do bupkis because the very abilities that are used as an excuse for your lack of armor or HP don’t actually work! Ahahahahhahahaha…
- Oh. What’s that? But what about blink you say? Hey, such neat ability you say. So cool. Much wow. It would be a pity if it didn’t work half the time, now would it? Oh. You just tried to blink when there was a microscopic pebble in front of you? Well then. I guess you ain’t going no where, brooooooooooooooooooooooo! Say goodbye to your mobility CD’s!!!
Look. I get it. There’s a lot of hyperbole here. But to be fair, I did warn you in advance. The takeaway here is that it sux and I’m tired of playing this borked class that either doesn’t work half the time or is simply far too try hard for its own good. I’m tired of dreading logging into my main and then being super happy to play literally any of my alts. So whilst I prepare to ditch my long-term main and start getting my replacement shammy ready (which is also about to receive a massive visual upgrade for many of its abilities in 11.05), I will only say that I will miss all the enchanting and tailoring recipes that are now trapped on them that they will now take to their grave (paid class changes when?)
