Rank cap increase; how does it work?

Based off of SOD, I assume we will all be capped at R11 0%, which unfortunately increases the grind duration by one whole week (thanks Blizzard).

It seems they plan to increase the rank cap “a few weeks” after BWL launches.

So how does it actually work, as someone who was not there for SOD and their ranking cap stuff:

Can we PVP for the week before they patch the ranking cap increase, and then the week it goes live, our previous week honor will progress us beyond 0%?

Is there just a complete honor point gain block once you’re at 0% r11? As in you kill people, you get 0 honor?

Do they plan to increase the rank cap on a Thursday like they did with adding BGs? Which means we basically should not PvP until the week that they plan to add it, but honor we earn on Monday-Thursday will still count towards the following Tuesday’s honor reset?

Anyone familiar with how this is likely to work, your input appreciated.

The cap is 11. You can get up to rank 4 your first week getting honor, you can gain two additional ranks each week

If you get to rank 2 or 3 the first week, you are still capped at 2 ranks a week…

You can stock up marks of honor before phase 3.

So, A. this isn’t even true, I went from rank 4 > rank 7 after the 2nd week of honor grinding as just one example.

and B. you’re not even answering any of the questions I actually asked.

I did, you can stock up on marks, that’s it. Nothing else. It’s gonna hard cap 11 0%. You can fill you mailbox with marks a few days prior.

People were able to start grinding honor the week before it was uncapped and gain progress when the cap was removed. Basically everyone did it for the first uncap at r10 or whatever, and then they didn’t tell us when the uncap was for r13->r14 so some people got r14 a whole week early because they’d been actively pvping.

Early as in the target for people having R14 per Zirene was week 2, and there were definitely R14 shamans pvping during the first week of AQ.

Where is this confirmed? The roadmap has them releasing at the same time. I’d like to know so I can just quit now because that’s too timegatey in favor of raid loggers for me. I play classic to go hard at ranking.

edit… nm I think I see it, tho I don’t know if they’ve been more specific about “a few weeks” elsewhere.

At the launch of the phase, the Honor cap will be set to Rank 11, with it extending to Rank 14 shortly after the release of the Blackwing Lair raid dungeon at a later date.

Can we just have a real classic fresh please instead of this retaily timegated garbage? Thanks.

It’s in the post where Blizzard announced honor starting on the 9th and BGs on the 16th but the actual wording was “shortly after bwl launches” the assumption is that means a few qeeks

What does that even mean

Not sure what part is confusing. Do you know what time gating is?

Wow was time gated releasing every phase at once wouldn’t be very authentic

Double checking. If we grind honor week before it will then boost us past Rank 11?

It did on SoD. People hit Rank 14 a full week earlier than intended.

I’m gonna write this out to fully explain it

Week 0, rank is capped at 11, you grind honor to the expected cap to make your maximum progress despite already being rank 11, and thus capped.
Week 1, rank uncaps, your honor progress is granted.

Now, they could always prevent this by just running honor calc’s first. But they seem incredibly incompetent so I think you’d be asking a lot of them.

So in essence when people say “they’ve added an extra week to the grind” it’s actually not technically true as long as we know the rank increase maintenance a week beforehand?

A week of grinding is still a week of grinding

If there was no cap at 11 you could grind to 11+50% this week that would save a week down the line.

Ah, yeah, you’re right, it just means we get it 1 week earlier “than intended”, assuming only it’s “intended” that we’re at 0% when the ranking cap is increased. So not really reducing the grind.
