On the PTR you cannot buy gear unless you currently have the correct rank, which is consistent with live.
However, I think it should be changed to lifetime rank rather than current rank. There seems to be no reason not to do that. The original system was designed to force players to maintain their ranks. That was clearly no longer the intent by 1.12.
***Moreover, the biggest problem I see is people who rank up the week before the patch might get screwed. When will those people be able to buy their highest rank gear when the patch goes live? ***
If the patch goes live on Tuesday, their rank will be reset and they have been able to get the rewards. I suppose you could take a one-week break between old and new system, but that seems kind of lame shutting down ranking for an entire week.
That’s doesn’t address the issue of people who finish their rank before the patch. Yes, they put people on notice the ranks will be reset but it doesn’t expressly address if/how you can get your rewards for your final week.
They should either let people buy gear based on highest rank achieved or have a dead week between rank reset. Otherwise there is no point in ranking the final week of you can’t buy the gear.
Who is still ranking for gear just go run AQ or naxx
Either way, an easy fix would be to just drop it on Thursday which gives people one last week to calculate ranks and buy what they want before the reset.
I presume a good many people who hit rank 13/14 want to buy the gear for the prestige and look of them, not only for the stats they come with. I could be wrong of course, but if I had the ability to rank all the way up that’s why I’d want to buy the gear.
The purple PVP gear is AQ40 level. Gear that great shouldn’t be in the game until at least a few months after BWL. However, I do agree that people should be able to grind to R14 then receive the set when it is released.
In my opinion, they should have one week between the PVP changes so the people on the old system can get the gear. They do this with arenas all the time.
Two days aren’t really enough, because some people may not be able to log in on those two days for whatever reason, and it’s not really like the raid releases.
Maybe keep battlegrounds open but just for fun. One week between it mattering won’t harm anyone. Then on top of that update the blue post to an actual timeline.
There was actually a big issue with this for the tbc pre-patch. I doubt many remember that. People there cared more about the titles, and it took weeks for them to fix that.
Like this. If you’re rankimg right now and the patch is coming on Tuesday, then your highest rank is what you have right now and not what it would be if honor was calculated like normal.
This is probably why they told people weeks ago that if they weren’t close their goal it would probably be best to stop.
If the ranks are reset to 0, like on the PTR with the “warlord” 60s being at rank 0, then the “highest rank” from the old system won’t matter.
You can’t buy the stuff based on your highest ranks. So if you’re reset to rank 0 it won’t matter what you had on that screen, just what’s in your inventory. You can’t even get in the building with the gear/mounts.
I do think that as soon as that blue announcement was put up people should have either finished their grind to get out, or stopped trying, so this wouldn’t matter, but what are the chances of that actually happening?
I guess if they gave a few weeks of concrete warning it’s ok regardless but you know what, look at the stories of where people get really upset over things like this. The forum paper trail is massive.
You won’t be able to buy gear for your final rank when ranks are reset.
So, Blizz should either let gear be purchased based on highest rank OR let everyone know that there will be a dead week before rank reset where no matter how much honor you get, you won’t be able to buy the rewards.
