Ranged Dps

So i recently came back to wow, just starting out in dragonflight, running into the whole “picking a main” issue. i havent done any end game content yet, i have a few characters ive leveled to 70 so far. i know its towards the end of the expansion so it might not matter at this point but would like some advice anways. i dont like having an alt army as then i end up not playing very much. i usually only do 1 melee and 1 ranged

melee i picked was DH cause its fun and easier

ranged im between mage and hunter, are those good choices? which one edges out the other on end game content?

Hey Rivalz! Just want to quickly add it is the middle of the expansion right now or close to it. It’s nowhere near the end so you have so much time.

For range I would go against Hunter’s as they are in a terrible place. I’ve mained one since BFA and have done high end content. Your best bet is mage as they are great and usually always mid to top of pack for at least 1 of the specs.

Hope this helps.

If you want fun and easy, pick hunter…if you want the one that is currently performing better, pick mage.

Just keep in mind that in a couple of months, the new season is going to start, and the META may change.

Do you wanna shoot a weapon or slang spells? Both classes are fine, mages being better right now because they just got a whole bunch of love. In season 1 it was hunters that were good and mages that were at the bottom. Maybe 10.2 hunters get the next batch of updates and go back to the top, idk. So it’s best to just pick the class you find thematically most appealing.

imo Mage is in a better place than Hunter right now, especially since Mage just had their class rework.

Nobody knows if they have a Hunter rework planned atm.

Also, if you care about utility, Mage is better.

Mage wins in endgame content.

I love my hunter, but they drew the short straw for talent/class design this xpac.

I cant speak for all content, but hunter has some pretty stong utility so I would say they are comparable.

Both have hero/lust
Both have CCs
Hunters have soothe to remove enrages
Hunters have turtle shell to eat mechanics
Mages have spell steal
Mages have intellect buff
Mages have mage table

What am I missing?

Also portals. :stuck_out_tongue:

Portal Roulette is dead, though.

Maybe. I do appreciate the time porting saves me when I’m on my Mage though.

Yeah, but it’s nowhere near as fun as clicking the portal stack and getting yeeted over the crater.

Oh, those were fun times. I accidentally ported myself to the crater instead of Dalaran like a noob once. I learnt to double check which button I was pressing after that.

The ice trap that you can use to instant cc things like incorporeal or the add on final boss of freehold

Also misdirect, tar trap and binding shot to assist your tank with the tanking things they do. And turtle being a better ice block for immunity (seems you had that one but im keeping it for emphasis lol)

how do they compare in pvp?

Mages have either a party invis or party wide shield defensive
Remove curse
Greater invis for mage skips
Free food/water
better damage.
Better control
