Then blizzard needs to rework all of their old bosses to give you visual warnings that you are too close to others without add-ons.

The game isn’t better because you didn’t know one of your melee was 1 pixel too close to another stack on Thorim, so chain lightning deleted the groups.

Or blood bolts on Lana’thel killing people because they have no visual indicator that they are far enough from neighbors if the fear gathers people up.

Or empowered shock vortex spreads on blood princes that the game gives very little time to do.

The encounters back then were literally designed assuming you had add-ons to see range. It had been how these mechanics were dealt with since vanilla.

It wasn’t until much, much later that blizzard figured out that it’s dumb to assume an addon for that, and started giving that visual information in game.

The classic series can’t support removing of range addons until it gets back to where blizz started putting those range indicators in by default.

The game isn’t better because you can die to things that it doesn’t provide you the information to effectively avoid. Blocking ways to get that information is just going to make the game more frustrating.

This is why most people dont remember phone numbers any more, and why people follow gps routes into a lake.

Doesnt make anything necessarily “easier”, including my examples, these things are not “hard”.
What addons, and the plethora of other things that “make life easier” are, is a crutch. Good luck trying to walk without them.

The game is a puzzle for YOU to solve.

Something they need to think about for cata for sure.

Wotlk is almost over buff is already out no era wotlk servers coming it’s w.e at this point

The buff isn’t starting for another 3 resets…

Holiday weeks starting, ppl are busy these next 7 weeks until NYE. Always the quietest time of the year for organized raiding

…And? You said the buff is already out. It isn’t for 3 more weeks

Reminds me of when Blizz broke how the original decursive worked late into progression in original Naxx. Used to be you just hit your hotkey and it would auto target a raid member with a “curable” debuff. Very handy considering the amount of debuff spam vanilla raids had and that they had 40 targets to hit.

Once that change went live, Grand Widow became a progression fight again that week for the team I was on .

Sorry, it’s already announced. Tomato tomato

Yes, but the puzzle is notably less fun when the devs just leave out the picture to help guide you through it.

Expecting people to quickly and precisely spread, but not give any visual information on if they have done so before the mechanic kills them is not good design.

The game can be well designed to a point where add-ons are not a major factor on success, but the classic series was not there yet.

What was worse is that the default raid frames in vanilla didn’t even show debuffs, you literally needed add-ons to see who needed dispels.

So by that logic Cata is already out

Back in my day you couple enable click to move lmaooo

Exactly. Yet another reason to not want changes. I wish Blizzard would quit forcing us to play their way and just allow us to choose whether or not we want to trivialize a given mechanic. If people wanted to spend the entire fight running around to get away from the players emitting AoEs, they would disable the addons themselves.

it’s a themepark MMO.
If you want a sandbox, go play EVE.

i never use range check. you can gauge distance with your eyes…

Good for you.

That doesn’t make it good game design that it doesn’t confirm that you spread enough before the lethal attack.

You shouldn’t have to guestimate it, or need an addon to get that confirmation.

Blizz eventually figured that out themselves.

No range indicator in Classic/Vanilla is no problems at all. In Cata however…might be an issue.

i would argue it’s an expression of skill. They didn’t design the game for range check.

They kind of did…

There are a lot of mechanics that are raid wipes if people aren’t spread properly.

Blizzard admitted as much to assuming boss mod use when designing encounters after like, Molten Core.

It saved them from needing to program in range indications to things like cthun’s eye beams when you just assume everyone has a warning installed to warn them ahead of time.

Yeah, you can eyeball it, but it’s a frustrating game experience to randomly wipe on any given week because some raid members are slightly off on their eyeballing of a lethal mechanic.

It would be especially frustrating on something like Thorim hard mode, where you’d have no idea if your melee stacks are in position until the chain lightning didn’t jump between all 3 groups.
