We have range dps and heals and melee dps and heals. Why not tanks?

Wait, so want a tank that can tank but does so outside of the typical melee range of the mobs it would be tanking?
Point of tank is to face usually boss away from raid group and move him from A to B.
If a tank had range, there would be dead gap, or dead zone of 10+yards you mentioned, between him and boss that no one could use. And as well boss had to be ranged, otherwise there is no point of being raged tank when boss hits with melee. It would make Raid fights just more annoying and difficult, especially for healer.
Imagine fight between boss and tank are both ranged , like a watching volleyball game. They throw at each other stuff while you either had to be behind the boss or on the sides.
Because there is no point. All bosses and a lot of adds do melee dps. Know what happens when you agro a melee enemy? It runs into melee and attacks you.
Maybe the OP is talking about a tank that can kite? It using it’s taunt from range and slowly drags the mobs around while everyone trails behind said mobs attacking? I honestly don’t understand the reasoning for wanting such a play style as it would be annoying to AoE classes as you are constantly dragging mobs out of range. Plus without constant slows, they would just run up to you anyways. Not to mention bosses that can’t be moved and if the tank isn’t in melee range, it just slaughters melee classes until the tank does enter melee range.
So what happens during fights where the boss aoes everything if nobody is in melee range?
Ranged tanks are fun but only work in games where your enemies also use predominantly ranged attacks. Here it just wouldnt work

I am almost always in support of new tanks being added to the game. But this just won’t happen.
Tanking Mechanics don’t allow for such things. Bosses and their mechanics rely on being able to consistently land their melee attacks on the Tank, and even dodge focused tanks like brewmaster can’t evade forever.
For instance, bosses that enrage when they have no one to Melee attack, Like King Mechagon, or the Tentacles on the Kraken fight at the end of ‘Siege of Boralus’
Don’t get me wrong, I want as many new tanks added to the game as possible. But they just won’t work at a range. Blizzard Didn’t make this game that way.

Beastmaster Hunter is probably as close as you’ll get to this. They wouldn’t actually make it a tank spec though.
What if, now hear me out, a BM hunter could switch places with his pet. We control the pet and our body sits at range and auto-attacks as they normally do anyway xD FLAWLESS
