I asked this in a class forum before remembering this one. Is there an addon that will show me ranges around my character? Im thinking something like a 40 yard ring so I know what’s within striking range. I have Weak Auras, Elvui and Spy but that’s it. I try to keep addons to a minimum for performance. Maybe WA does it?
I’m not sure about addons. I know that there are weakauras that will show you range on your target, but nothing will be able to draw a circle around your character in the game world. (Blizzard greatly limits what addons can do to the rendered 3d world.)
What I usually do is I set my nameplate view distance to 40 yards (or whatever the max value is for the character) and set it to always show nameplates. If it’s in range, the nameplate will show. I use the addon AdvancedInterfaceOptions to set the nameplate view distance. (It’s possible ElvUI has it as an option without needing another addon, though.)
Blizzard disabled the ability to change nameplate render distance cuz people were abusing it with scientific notation. CVars still exist, they’re just not hooked up to anything anymore.
I thought that was just in Classic?
Edit: I got a chance to check in game. It does indeed look like the cVar for it is broken. I guess that tells you how much attention I’ve been paying to my retail UI recently.
