Randomly disconnecting... Anyone else?

I’ve been disconnecting like every 5 minutes on wow classic hardcore, doomhowl. Anyone else have the same issue? Also anyone have any steps I can take, i cleared cache, reset all my addons, and still keep randomly being diconnected, so frustrating.

People will still mindlessly repeat “hurr durr it’s yer addons, streamer told me so” stuff.

Are you on wifi, or a non-wired connection directly to the modem with no router? That’s the biggest help to making your connection solid. You may also have a bad DNS, and need to reset it. Try to open the command prompt (Start Menu + R to open the run dialog, type in “cmd” to open the command prompt. Then type in: ipconfig/flushdns). Sometimes your DNS will be bad and needs a reset. Fully restarting your modem, computer, and router can be very helpful (unplug them for a full 60 seconds).

First do you get any errors at all when this occurs that you’re aware of, those could help narrow the problem. If you’re disconnecting every 5 minutes, it will down to either your computer/installation or your internet connection, both will be difficult to troubleshoot and can exhibit similar behavior, so if you can narrow it down to one or the other it makes it far easier to troubleshoot, and can probably limit your testing to that.

Testing/questions around internet issues

  • Disconnect your computer from your internet (wired/WIFI) connect it to a hot spot on your phone. Does the issue persist?

Testing/questions around computer based issues

  • Do you have a second computer you can use to test WOW, or is there someone else in your household that also plays that isn’t experiencing the issue?
  • Shut down every application on your computer, then reboot, see how WOW is running, most computers often will restart everything including tabs
  • Disable all add-ons
  • Stop WOW, move the WTF folder to a different location, restart wow, if it doesn’t fix the problem you can move it back, but keep a copy of it
  • Make sure your computer is up to date on all drivers, including the OS
  • Uninstall and Reinstall WOW (last option as it likely will do little)
  • If you have overclocked anything, disable that and put it back too normal (overclocking will introduce errors, which could impact WOW
  • What do you experience when playing other servers, ERA, Anniversary, Cata?

After this, reach out to CS, thru the CS forum. Provide the time you started seeing the problem, how often the problem occurs, and if there are is any variation to the time you see the problems. Include all information such as your OS and version, brand/type of computer, amount of ram, Video Card information, processor and motherboard. You should also include internet information, such as how your connecting wifi/wired, type of router, and type of internet and provider.

Provide a detailed but concise, but clear list of everything you have tried, in a bulleted list.

Also some consumables like Rumsey Rum will DC you. That’s how my 39 hunter died.
