Random Battlegrounds

Do you still queue up?

If not, why?

Would you if something changed? What is that something?

If you dont currently, When was the last time you enjoyed doing random Battlegrounds?

Does the way your class interacts with others feel different in a way that makes you less likely to pvp casually?

For me, i noticed i stopped doing random bgs for fun around legion. But ive picked them back up again and find i still enjoy the chaos and the mess.

As for legion and why i stopped. I think i lost focus on what i enjoyed (pvp) and only saw what i wanted (rewards)

Yeah, I just barely started doing them again. I quit for awhile because I was just getting one shot all the time. Started doing them again for rep and realized I missed randoms. Now I’m doing randoms with my velf mw monk.

I queue up for random EBGs if that counts.

Definitely counts. I’m just looking to see if we can kinda spitball if anything has changed. Or if it’s just individual perception of it.

like, back in the day random bgs was all I’d ever do. I played arena to get gear to do more bgs lol. Like it was just fun. The game I logged in to enjoy.

Eventually that feeling became that random bgs were a task I had to complete to accomplish something else, but I can’t put my finger on when or why that perspective changed.

Recently I’m back to enjoying random bgs for fun and the game I’m logging in to play, but I don’t know why specifically.

I enjoy random bg’s once you have full honor gear. Rated bg’s have been annoying lately.

I queue epic BGs almost exclusively, fairly chill experience imo

Occasionally if there’s a weekly/quest up I’ll do regular BGs, but I don’t really enjoy them as much

The brawls are fun depending on which one is up

Main thing “missing” from the casual BGs experience is new content, if they would just commit to adding at least 1 new BG per expansion it would go a long ways

I feel like there would be some bloat at this point but I kind of agree.

Me too. I loved me some BGs. Is there an honor vendor in DF? That’s why I stopped doing them. I had to PvE or rely on random chests to gear up.

I stopped in WoD…

rewards became RNG instead of earn currency, buy piece.

no idea how they do it now…

Yeah there is! I’m not sure if there’s a big honour skip as I farmed my pvp gear earlier in the expansion so I was already in some pvp gear when I came back.

it’s back to currency & buy piece. There’s a pvp vault thing kind of like pve though.

I can share why I do what I do and maybe that could help open avenues.

So, I almost-exclusively do EBGs. I typed up a massive post. Instead, it’s basically because Warhammer Online was by far my favorite PvP content. Realm vs Realm was a lot of fun and EBGs are the closest I can get to it in WoW even though they’re barely similar.

Some things that keep me out of Battlegrounds and Arena. I can’t handle the negative emotions of gamers nowdays. PvPers were always “whiners”. But now, it’s almost every match. Even if we’re winning! The other players do a lot to drag PvP down for me. I never really fit-in with the PvPers. It’s definitely gotten worse over the years for me, though.

Another thing is PvP in WoW feels very automated to me. Like, if Alliance took Docks like they almost always do and they’re about to knock down our door while we’re still struggling to hold/take Workshop and Airbase, then if we don’t do anything about it we have lost. Yet, people just refuse to defend or try to retake Docks. It’s like PvP is already “solved” for a lot of people. One of the draws of PvP is the variance and I find that WoW has the least amount of variance of any MMO when it comes to PvP.

I still enjoy it despite all of that. The community and automation will keep me from really enjoying it like I used to. I tend to have more fun in other MMO’s PvP modes. I think a new EBG map would be amazing.

Maybe none of that was helpful. It was more of just me venting and I apologize. Hopefully it can add at least a tiny bit to your brainstorming. Good luck and I hope you have fun.

I stopped since I just drop dead immediately when entering combat. I think it’s a combination of being under-geared and everyone targeting the shammy.

I still PvP, in pretty much all forms except 2v2/3v3 arena, never really liked arena.

I feel that things have only gotten more lopsided in PvP over the years, in terms of player attitude.

There isn’t a point in continuing to play if you’re losing, especially in Epic Bgs, because comebacks are extremely rare.

Another issue is the number of healers on each side- if it’s unbalanced, one of the teams will get stomped, period.

Gear is also a major factor- I see so many people in questing gear instead of PvP greens you can get off the AH.

Sorry, but if you’re not in PvP gear, you’ll be nothing but fodder to the folks who do have it, which is likely everyone.

There isn’t anyone that guides you to those 424 BoE PvP greens, so most people just skip them.

Imo, there should be the minimum PvP ilvl requirement for PvP queueing. 424 (full PvP greens) should be required.

Never understood why normal dungeons have an iLvL requirement, meanwhile you can enter PvP (except Solo Shuffle) pretty much naked, which is one of the reasons why it’s so stomp-y.

It does.

At one point (and now in redo) all were just BG’s. AB or AV…just a bg.

i stopped doing bgs in shadowlands season 4 and df season 1 when hpal felt miserable to play

im queueing again now that it feels fun to play the only spec i want to play

i will stop again if blizz nukes hpal back to s4/dfs1 status

but current gearing for pvp is probably the best we’ll ever get in this new age

Have you tried ESO / Cyrodiil? It’s made by the old DAOC devs. It’s laggy but fills my void of large scale online pvp fairly well.

This is a double tie in for me. I’ve observed and lamented both of these trends, the “Quitting / Whiners” becoming more rampant over the years, and the ‘solved’ kind of, it’s this way not that way attitude to a multi-faceted free to choose battle.

I personally blame character power creep for the low morale of players. Before we all became gods in Legion, generally power stayed somewhere in the realm of normalcy. Classes hit as hard as you expected them to outside of a few set modifiers, and playing around that wasn’t always a trade. You weren’t always dead for not having x y z button to press because they used their corresponding shiny button.

I think the problem with what borrowed power started back then, and we’re continuing now that we’ve “kept” it as talents is that classes can overwhelmingly sway the tide of battle inside those cooldowns. So much so that it’s likely that one team can keep the upper hand once it gains it.

i’m not saying graveyard camps never happened. First time I had one was cata. they’ve been around forever. But it never felt like nothing could be done until borrowed power came along IMO.

This with time over years has lead to an all time low morale and a “just let them win.”

no no, thanks. I kind of let out my own thoughts on the subject too.
