RAM help purchasing

confused af on which ram to buy. currently i know i need DDR4 but outside of that im just confused. i look at these mobo specs for my mobo and don’t understand which i should get.

4 x DIMM, Max. 128GB, DDR4 4866(O.C)/4800(O.C.)/4600(O.C)/4400(O.C)/4333(O.C.)/4266(O.C.)/4133(O.C.)/4000(O.C.)/3866(O.C.)/3800(O.C.)/3600(O.C.)/3466(O.C.)/3400(O.C.)/3200/3000/2933/2800/2666/2400(O.C.)/2133 MHz Non-ECC, Un-buffered Memory

4 x DIMM, Max. 128GB, DDR4 5100(O.C)/5000(O.C)/4866(O.C)/4800(O.C.)/4600(O.C)/4400(O.C)/4333(O.C.)/4266(O.C.)/4133(O.C.)/4000(O.C.)/3866(O.C.)/3600(O.C.)/3466(O.C.)/3400(O.C.)/3200/3000/2933/2800/2666/2400/2133 MHz Non-ECC, Un-buffered Memory

4 x DIMM, Max. 128GB, DDR4 3600(O.C.)/3466(O.C.)/3200/3000(O.C.)/2933/2800/2666/2400/2133 MHz Non-ECC, Un-buffered Memory

4 x DIMM, Max. 128GB, DDR4 3200/3000(O.C.)/2933/2800/2666/2400/2133 MHz Non-ECC, Un-buffered Memory

so i understand it caps off at 128GB which i obviously wont need that much im thinking 16GB at very least possibly 32GB but doubt it. as for the speeds im confused as it says (O.C.) which i assume means Over Clocked? for someone who wont be overclocking for MANY years does this mean it can only support 3200 safely plug and play?

also i am looking at RAM sticks and they state “AMD/Intel” does this strictly mean it’s for RBG?

My understanding is that 16 or 32gb of DDR4 3600 CL16 is the easiest, most accessible RAM that you can get that will give you good performance at a reasonable price.

A lot of folks in my circles talk about trying for 4000mhz RAM, and run the FCLK at 2000mhz, but that takes a lot of effort, tweaking, and trial and error with no guarantee that it will work well. As well as expensive RAM kits.

They also mention that beyond 4000mhz RAM doesn’t help as much (or detrimental? someone else chime in) because of how it interacts with FCLK frequency ratio.

I know Zen 3 still uses Zen 2’s memory controller/IO chiplet, so it still struggles with very fast RAM.

2x8GB DDR4 3600 CL16 is around $80, 2x16GB DDR4 3600 CL16 will be around or under $200.

Going above that costs a lot more. And more DIMMS tends to be more difficult on the memory controller.

From your post history, I would think the more accessible/easiest to configure RAM would be the best choice for you.

Hopefully, one of our resident AMD/5000 series experts can chime in with some better information.

im looking at getting 3200 or 3600 but this video i am watching is talking about lowering XMP on the 3600 cause it can’t run it that well or something. not on this mobo though different setup.

if i get the 3600 would it just automatically lower it for me since it can’t take advantage? on the mobo specs it says O.C. as well for the 3600. same video showed specs of the 2 and didn’t see much of a huge difference in terms of performance. i am checking on newegg window shopping atm though and see more 3600 sticks then 3200’s

ops nvm i had filter on XD to only show 3600’s

If you get 3600 and enable XMP, there’s a good chance it will work with one click. But there’s more than a small chance it will need more user tweaking to get it to work.

Here’s a reddit thread that talks about it in more detail from people I am going to assume have more first hand knowledge than I:

Regardless of AMD Ryzen’s continued RAM stability issues, I just want to say THANK YOU TO THE ALL BENEVOLENT AMD, WHICH CARES NOTHING OF PROFITS BUT ONLY FOR MOAR COREZ FOR YOU AND ME.

I don’t know man, AMD CEO looks kind of like some sort of power unholy infused demigod to me. Not sure you can trust her.

I think that’s the best Lisa Su meme I’ve seen. I really like her. She has done an amazing job and has had an amazing career.

She definitely has a better sense of style than Jensen. That leather jacket has GOT to go.

thanks. i just found a video simple enough for me to understand XD. talked about ram only running at 2133mhz and anything above that is considered OC and they just changed XMP which was simple enough.

i am wondering though would you consider 3600? or something higher for me?
