Raids are too complicated

As a healer, there is definitely a LOT more random, “we’re just going to pulse the entire raid with damage to keep players busy” going on.

Is the game becoming too difficult or is the community getting older?

Them reflexes ain’t what they used to be, huh?

Both, but overall it seems like people are better at the game than they were back in the day too, so the difficulty increase makes sense.

Can anyone name something from a current raid fight that “isn’t telegraphed” and requires an addon to see?

Because I can’t think of any.

The only raid fight I’ve ever done that I felt an addon was necessary for was Mythic Queen Azshara.

Nope. Raids are great as is. Sorry the raids aren’t all Patchwerk style type bosses. The whole point of raid bosses are to have mechanics. Raiding would be insanely boring otherwise.

Fewer mechanics == faster raid clears == more people likely taking a break from WoW because they have nothing left to do since the raids were so much easier.

You can stick to normal mode if you want as that has the least amount of mechanics (other than LFR but at least normal requires you do pay attention) but if you think even that is too many then raiding in WoW probably isn’t for you as what you want would be horrible raiding.

I’m 33 and I think I started playing when I was 16. This game saw me grow a beard and hair in other places. And how I got bald too.

If I was 20 I think I would have no problem using certain classes/Spec while playing DDR on M+ and Raid.

But emmm… My eyes and hands are not the same. Especially my hands.
The carpal tunnel doesn’t help either.

normal raids = I don’t think they are complicated at all, not to mention the mechanics are pretty forgiving even if you mess them up.

heroic raids = Earlier bosses are simple, but some of the later bosses can be a bit more complicated. It also depends on what role you have in the raid.

mythic raids = I agree that they are complicated.

I do wish more mechanics in WOW are more clearly telegraphed so add ons are not as mandatory for mythic raiding. But, I don’t foresee it changing.

Again:

Anyone?

Download addons, they practically tell you where to stand the whole boss fights.

They don’t. But whatever.

You should know very well how add ons are used for in mythic raiding. So, I find it ironic you are asking this. But since you want to nitpick, I will bite.

Yes, generally speaking, you can “see” the raid mechanics without any add ons. However, many mythic mechanics require split second reactions.

So, if players look at the in-game visual representation of the mechanic and then react, it will often be too late, which will result in their death or even a wipe for the entire raid. This is especially true for mechanics that require the group to stack up (making it hard to see your own debuffs) and then split up based on the markers they get.

In such situations, add ons that tell you what mechanic you got are so beneficial that they are pretty much mandatory although you “can” technically play without the add ons and react by looking at your monitor.

If you are not using any add ons in your raids because you can just “see” all the mechanics, then more power to you.

The first thing most people do with an addon like Bigwigs is turn everything off, yeah.

Turn on an occasional timer bar to help plan cooldowns? Sure.

But the “yo the boss is casting this thing that you can clearly see because he’s casting it on his cast bar and it’s pretty damn obvious” announcements? Hell no. Turn that crap off. It’s just clutter.

Fun Story: Last night we started on Mythic Grimtotem (tough boss btw!!!) and there were Mythic settings I hadn’t looked at yet. And after a few pulls I started seeing the clutter announcements and was like “where did all this start coming from?” then looked and was like “oh yeah Mythic settings I skipped over - turn that stuff off. Don’t need that, don’t need that, don’t need that…”

(And, like, yeah. California accent.)

Big wigs is designed for the general public so of course there will be many timers and announcements from it that you may not need, or would rather emphasize more. That is exactly why the add on lets you customize it.

But, if you are telling me, for example, you guys did Mythic Council in Castle Nathria without the stack and then go left (no debuff) / go right with your partner WA, then I guess you just have some amazing raiders.

That’s not a boss mod, that’s weakauras. Weakauras’ sole purpose is to display information (such as “do I have debuff A or B?”) in whatever manner you see fit.

Is the baseline UI terrible?

HELL YES THE BASELINE UI IS TERRIBLE. AND THIS REVAMPED ONE IS NO BETTER.

Does that make boss mods required? No. They’re pretty pointless.

People need to understand the difference between boss mods (which are generally not important and unless you turn everything off just clutter and confuse your gameplay) with UI improvement addons (which are ESSENTIAL).

Done it before, not that hard.

What mechanic are you finding hard to see coming? They seem to be reasonably well telegraphed in game to me.

Raiding is DF is way more chill than SL ever was.
I wish this philosophy would have been extended to my favorite spec, but that’s a different issue. (yes, i’m salty)

Why don’t you like playing dance dance revolution?

What’s funny is that addon did what Blizzard does now. It just drew telegraphs on the floor.

I gotta agree here. If I have to download 10 addons made by college kids to play your game, maybe you should rethink your game.
