Any last minute tips from my fellow brothers and sisters of the Ebon Blade before I head into Uldir tomorrow? I’m feeling confident in my class, rotation, and bindings. I’ve experienced the fights in LFR and watched the Fatboss guides numerous times.
This will be the first official guild raid i’ve tanked since ToS, where H KJ broke my guild. Those were different times and on my retired Prot Paladin. I’m here to prove once and for all that B DK is the superior tank!
youll be fine friend uldir isn’t that bad on normal and neither is heroic if you have the gear for it. A big one is on zekvoz use AMS on the FIRST void lash. so you have no healing debuff and then you can heal the shatter right back. overall I would say just keep an eye out for things to use ams on. And on mythrax when youre not tanking ALWAYS clear your stacks even if you have to run really far. take wraith walk for that fight. most tanks leave a couple stacks because they don’t feel like it and then they have 30 stacks by the end of the fight.
Definitely bring tomes with you to change talents a lot of the situational talents change around depending on the fight. And just so you know mother is bugged so you wont get 6 stacks of boneshield with DRW on. Definitely try to off tank on fetid, wait for right after a thrash and deathstrike once or twice and youll be back to full, its super fun and youll make your healing meters look good.
How did it go?
No go. Guild was going to have pug in a few dps, which they weren’t too keen on doing. Also my ilvl wasn’t exactly in a comfortable place, and literally took me all of raid day to raise it to that level. I still would like a few more levels under HoA but I should be good for normal/heroic Uldir at this point. Continuously running LFR Uldir to at least get used to the basics of the boss fights, but paying attention to the extras in Normal/Heroic.
Just my 2 cents…and I’m far from a wealth of raiding information. I lean much more toward gems and enchants that give Haste over any other. The more often I can do something, especially generate the resources to self heal, the better off I feel.
I also exchange Bone Storm for Purgatory when raid tanking.
And as RedRaider suggested, try to off tank for Fetid. That one is a giant pain. For the Mother fight, I’m the first one through with a heal and ranged. I drop D&D to slow the incoming adds. I also run the cudgel and tank the adds on the elevator for Taloc. You can survive a long time in the pools the leave on the floor and tank them like you are square dancing so you can leave as much open floor space for everyone else.
RedRaider had other great suggestions for the other fights, too. Don’t forget to enchant that 2nd ring and look at maybe changing to Haste over Versatility if you find yourself with everything on cooldown and you have nothing to do but watch! Another one I can say not to step on anyones toes but only switch between bonestorm and red thirst. With the crappy talent changes we got this year purg is pretty much a dead talent for me it may as well be tombstone.
All trash, and aoe fights that you outgear take bonestorm. Anything else red thirst is your friend. Yeah you have a cheat death if you are MAYBE able to outheal it but at the same time youre going to die twice as much with these big gaps in your cool downs.
One of bloods greatest strengths is our long list of not only chainable but also combinable cooldowns that all have a different cheat mechanic. AMS for void lash, vamp blood for varimathras in antorus, IBF and rune tap for enlarged heart on taloc, deaths advance for wind mechanics, the list goes on. I love this. I very much appreciate you breaking down which talents have been useful in specific situations. This has been in the back of my mind since my DK hit 120 and is something that I failed to do on my Prot Pally. I have grown tremendously as a tank since ToS (when I decided to retire my pally in search of a superior tank class) and prefer the tanking style and kit that only a B DK is capable of.
Trust me man youre always going to look at the other tanks and wonder what if. I do it still! I am always itching to pick up my warrior. This is done by design I feel as blizzard gives every tank big strengths and sometimes even bigger weaknesses. Trust in yourself that you are the coolest and strongest plate tank. And yeah dk is all about cheating the enemy haha and we have one of the most complete tool kits in the game of all specs and classes right now.
