wanting a key game element removed because YOU don’t like it is so amazingly selfish and conceited.
Fair on the wanting raiding removed. I don’t care for it anymore but I don’t want it removed. Wow is way more than just raiding though.
Personal milestone have been AotC. Not having the time for Mythic but along the way I’ve learned to lead pugs and been hitting AotC with pugs each patch. No schedules, not waiting on the same people to gear up and prepare, etc. Once led the guild raid for some time - felt like pugging but worse since you can’t replace someone who refuses to watch a 2 min video or gear up.
I feel similarly on the time aspect.
But the biggest #1 reason I don’t like raiding is Bloodlust/Heroism uptime. You have it for every boss pull and for at least one trash pull. I don’t mind M+ cause you can’t have it more than once every 10 minutes. The pacing is better and I actually enjoy lust in that environment.
Let me talk to you all about butterscotch as a whole and why I don’t do it anymore…
(just kidding, I never liked butterscotch)
I know it’s more than just raiding. However raiding and mplus are the primary modes of the game. This game has always been based on group content over solo content.
The act of raiding to me isn’t the end all be all of MMO’s like it used to be. I really believe MMO’s can survive on just smaller party based combat.
If there’s anything that is a staple to MMO’s it’s grinding and collecting
I mostly agree
I raid to play time with the guys and gals i have played with for years. It is a social activity for me.
I quit s1 in DF because schedule didn’t allow for it anymore
Very liberating and ive enjoyed the game much more not having to have scheduled playtime.
Also probably because most guilds having Pacific raid times is also miserable given im not pacific and get up early.
Think this is the biggest reason for most people. I know time zones and just dealing with guilds in general to be the biggest turn off. The further you fall from quickly getting CE the more annoying guilds tend to get.
There is no guild more sweaty then the midcore guild with dreams of CE with a group clearly not capable of doing it.
Isn’t this the entire reason M+ exists?
For Dads with 5 Jobs and 30 kids that don’t have the time to raid?
Eh Im a heroic andy. Far from CE and that level of turbo nerd.
I did enjoy the ppl i raided with and have em on my friends list. It was just raiding until 1:00 a.m that killed me.
Then getting bosses like sylvanas which were just not a fun fight.
That reminds me I actually pugged my heroic sylvanas kill with a monk tank who solo tanked the entire fight, s talked the entire raid in discord about how bad we were, and just called for externals. Was honestly the funniest most epic random thing ever. So raiding can be dope.
I enjoy it as I like running w my guild. TWW has been a flop for my guild so we’re not raiding anymore; here’s hoping Midnight generates more interest
The counterpoint there is that other activities simply give the same or better rewards for less effort, so people who primarily care about getting gear (which is a lot more players than people think) are taking the paths of least resistance.
Yep. Raid has been relegated to an M+ supplement in the gearing system. Especially since SL, you’re supposed to get the majority of your items from M+.
I think he is talking more about resource allocation.
Raids have always cost a lot with limited player engagement. Blizzard doesn’t want to kill raiding because it’s what makes MMOs stand apart from other types of games. So they tried to fix the engagement problem with LFR and other tiers of raids.
LFR IMO has started to fall apart though because you can out gear it fairly quickly with Delves.
While having “exclusive” content is fine - or even good as players get to have more a unique experience. But when you are having trouble creating enough content to keep players around, that’s a luxury you can ill afford.

My favorite part about this guy’s post is that he’s only done Nerubar Palace Heroic one single time on that paladin, and it was back in November when he was carried by a group of 630+ players when he was a 614 ret and still not parsing well.
This guy gave it the actual minimum amount of tries where he didn’t put in the effort to even get up to a decent gear level, which is hysterical considering this guy somehow manages to do M+ and is 628-629 as a tank (disregarding that I can see his latest keys are full of 635+ players when he’s 628 and in one of them 598 because of his pvp gear).
I also decided to check back a little further since he mentioned previous raiding exp. He only did LFR Amirdrassil, did Heroic Vault of the Incarnates one single time and didnt even kill Raszageth. He killed Heroic Jailer/Sylvanas 1 time, and Denathrius 3 times.
It sounds like this guy joined some guilds where they didn’t want to carry him because he was too low at the time now in War Within, or they didn’t have a tank slot available, and this guy just couldn’t handle it and made a post after not doing much raiding on his pally in the past to begin with. How dare these “mom and dad” guilds with long time friends and more experience and playtime than you “ask for free carries” or “not research” the fights when you can’t even research your own class or take the time to do literally anything to help yourself in the long term.
Edit: I forgot to mention, his full clear through heroic back in November was a guild group of 630+ players, so he joined a guild group of geared players who carried him, and he made this post.
Yeah, you are missing the point. It’s not to get you gear and kill bosses. It’s to hang out with friends, be social and do stuff together as a team. I, I, I, I, me, me, me, me is your problem. Gear is pointless and gets replaced. The experiences you had with friends are something you will remember forever. That is the point of raiding or wow in general. So many people have lost sight of this.
Heck yeah. I have even considered just raiding story mode with my friends and not worrying about the actual raid. Just a reason to hang with friends.
Loot motivated play is and has always been the toxic Achilles heel of the game.
It’s easy to fall into and the RNG poisons your enjoyment of the game.
