RaiderIO Personal Data Violation

There certainly is an option, but a friend and I experimented with this and it doesn’t prevent in-game data being shared with an add-on someone else is using. If you run a M+ (or a raid) your “score” is uploaded if they use RIO, regardless of whether or not Blizzar’ds privacy option is set to opt in or out. That Blizz account setting does not disable combat data logging either, so Warcraft Logs users can also upload your performance data for analysis without your permission (they do have Blizzard’s permission and it’s their data, not yours).

I was surprised, because the wording of that switch in the account page implies something like WC Logs and Raider IO would be blocked, but in fact they are not with the experimental observations I have with the privacy set to opt out.

Raider io stole the cookies out of the cookie jar!

It’s in the new ToS from them. Even if you opt out of it and manually click no for everything, it doesn’t gaf and on your next login will insist on complete permission if you want to use raider io. Runs a ton of scripts and is sketchy af, but it’s the standard so I’m willing to put myself at high risk for the service.

It would be great if Blizzard implemented their own.

Can you show evidence for this?

All it did was confirm you want cookies enabled on their website.

They can pull your API data whether you want them to or not, unless you disable it on your account.

OMG I had a good LOL when I read that, like sure you do.

Why is that such a crazy statement?

Check-PvP works in most cases unless the person intentionally makes an account to hide their alt characters.

Why is this so bewildering to believe? People who post on level 10 alts should be fact checked to see if they’re lying.

Why even worry about it? It’s the internet, it’s a gaming forum, come on.

If you’re posting an outrageous statement such as “Ive done 500 dungeons with no loot!” on a level 10 alt… why should I believe you? I’m going to fact check to doubt check if your statement is correct or not.

OK I mean I just ignore people like that but to each their own I guess.

Blizzard has money, can sue them

Sheeeeeeesh.

MMR for dungeons is good (since they introduced competitive dungeoning)
however it cannot be third party garbage parasiting off it.
Must be in game, instant update UI element.

I would think by this logic you would be against all 3rd-party add-ons. There are literally thousands of add-ons for WoW–would you see them all banned? If not, why this particular one (Raider IO)? I used it for Legion and first 3 seasons of BFA and never once went to their website until 4th season of BFA (linked a main to some alts). If you only want to lookup people’s scores in-game you never have to use their website… download the add-on (and its DB) from CurseForge (or WoWAce or anywhere else it’s listed) and update it once or twice a week–no intrusive IO website involved. Of course, Curseforge is now owned by Overwolf so you might still have nave an issue, but that goes to back to the idea that 3rd party add-ons should just all be banned; replaced by direct implementation in-game by Blizzard.

That’s never happening. Blizzard publishes their API to add-on developers as a fundamental aspect of extending the game through player efforts. As long as they follow the ToS and 3rd party dev rules, everything’s fine. Blizz also takes no responsibility for add-ons breaking your game… you use it, that’s on you.

You own some RIO shares or something?

lol, no! Why would you think that? I’m just surprised that you even went the RIO website–I’m saying I didn’t and used the add-on fine without ever going there. Why don’t you use it without using their website?

P.S. I don’t even think it’s a publicly traded company, so again, what?!

I will repeat that, I cannot ignore rio for competitive content,
I can ignore pretty much any other addon if I want to except this one,
this is not healthy.
