Title.
There are no pets, no mounts, no transmog, etc for farming m+.
Gear caps at Heroic Uldir ilvl except for weekly. And you can get the same quality of gear by afk’ing in a warfront.
Nobody actually looks at the Blizz leaderboards, only their io score.
If raider.io didn’t exist there would be absolutely no reason to run M+ besides once a week to get your chest.
Well thank you for sharing what was on your mind.
Yes. Before Raider io, no one could do Raids. We were lost and in the wilderness.

What about because I enjoy running dungeons with people?
Most people are not 370+ ilvl. The gear progression would keep it relevant for most players.
Even my main is 372 ilvl and I can still get better gloves, 2x Rings, and potentially 1 trinket from Mythic+ (the trinket might require a lucky WF/TF or getting it from the weekly box though, because it'd be replacing Fathoms).

This is about M+, not raids

R.IO is a double edge sword and the people who don't understand are going to get mad and they should.
Players want to play by Blizzard rules and not some 3rd party addon/website.
First R.IO divides the community; next, once the elitists are done gearing, they might really TRY to start turning M+ into some wannabe esport which IMHO will kill the M+ for must of us.
R.IO for M+ started creeping up late last year and I know that once the main base encounter this addon it will be like WotLK all over again.
I have a feeling Blizzard will put a progression metric in the game to keep all of us happy but to say R.IO is what keeping M+ going is a crock of Sugar Honey Ice Tea.

This is already the case. I only ever run m+ with friends and guildies so my io score is completely meaningless, it could be zero and it wouldn't change a thing for me.
I do my 10 for the week, and any additional runs are simply to carry my friends' alts.

Same here. Blizzard even said, when M+ was introduced, that it wasn't meant to be pugged.
No one cares about pets.
Underrot and King's rest have mount drops..

Gear is capped at 370? Really?
then i feel bad for m+.its dying as it is because of things like raider io.
Who cares?
It's a toxic system designed to make you play Battle for Tuesday so you can get another Cheesebox fix, and if anyone stands in the way of that sweet sweet cheese you should mock and ridicule them, then wallow in depression for a week as the item you get is a downgrade.
I guess it's fun to someone...
maybe Lawyers.

It's funny you mention this.
This morning all my guildees are chatting about their io scores and what dungeons they need to run this week to bump it up. Most of us need very little from the dungeons - it's just us getting our "fix" in a way that's "aesthetically" productive.
so what was the reason for running M+ back in legion before Raider.io became this big encompassing thing? Why were people doing it over and over for no reason?

I disagree. I don't care about people with low scores - as in, I don't judge them or treat them differently. Neither does anyone I've ever run M+'s with.
We do however use various bits of information (beyond just the overall score) from the raider.io website to assist us in selecting others for our PRE-MADE groups.
It's just information - we don't take it and apply it personally. It's just one of many things we consider when selecting people to run our keys with. Class/spec/professions/guild/server/etc. are also pieces of information that are considered.
I'm not sure if that's "the only thing keeping M+ going" but at least for me that's sort of true, if it wasn't for it I would probably only do my +10 for the week, instead I have a group of friends who I regularly run keys with and we try to improve, get higher keys done and raise our scores.
The score itself doesn't really mean much but it's a way of tracking out progress.
I remember when we were all around 900-950 score we had a little "race" among us to see who could get to 1k faster, it was quite fun because everyone had to "pug" the last bit which made it more challenging.

Nah, its all demm epic lewt :)
Maybe for high end, sure. But it's not the reason most people do mythic+ dungeons every week.

The “elitists” have been done gearing for at least a month. What could they do to turn m+ into more an esport that would affect anyone else?
