Raider io is the New Gearscore

Mythic+ groups wanting 2500-3000 score for +10’s so they can get free carries just a rehash of Gearscore all over again.

Item level is the new gear score

I’ve seen a few asking for logs already too. Anything people can get to feel more l33t.

My understanding was that raider io tracked the level of keys you were completing and whether they were completed in time. Gear score is more analogous to item level than raider io. Ultimately, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with players wanting to play with others of like skill.

I’m dubious of the claim that mythic + groups are asking for certain scores so they can be carried. Why would highly rated players join one or more low rated players to carry them for no benefit? Wouldn’t the highly rated players just make their own group? However, if it is so easy to just create a mythic + group, set a high radier io requirement, and get carried, isn’t just doing this the solution to the original complaint?

News at 11, people are idiots, I didn’t think we needed to rediscover this in 2020.

It’s just the yearly affirmation.

Gear score was a measure of gear. Raider Io is a measure of character experience. It’s not the same thing at all.

I’ve seen players with no Raider.io mains with current raider.io scores of 450 posting for keys with “Checking raider.io” and then declining anyone with an ilvl or score lower than 2k.

Even at score 1200 with key completions of 14++ on my record I find it hard to get M+ groups even now with instant declines for anything about a +13. Also you can’t just fabricate a key group out of nowhere. You need a key, and for a key you need a timed run.

Also if you want I can indulge in more detail. Gearscore from Wrath wasn’t a problem because of what it did, it was how the community used it. When I say raider.io is the new gearscore, I don’t mean it literally does the same thing. What I mean is it has the same impact on grouping in the community. It has the effect of boiling down all grouping to gatekeeping over a number most of the people using don’t understand, and leading to the players only inviting based on that number when it’s overly qualified for the dungeon.

Which has the effect of leaving players that would actually want to do that content for the gear, or the completion, or w/e in the cold because they can’t get a group to complete things because people want them to already have done it at a level that’s unreasonable to expect. It’s the same reason that M+ carries for twitch viewers are so MASSIVELY popular, because of the relentless gatekeeping.

It’s doubly stupid when you remember that this is prepatch, ilvl means a lot less than it used to, several classes received substantial changes, and all that gear will mean nothing by the end of this year.

Thank you Mr. Literal for not being able to understand what I am talking about. HINT: It’s not that they literally do the same function. That’s pretty obviously not what I mean.

So, people requiring high IOs for trash keys isnt new and isnt needed. The solution is to not group with them. Additionally, literally anyone can work up a key. Everyone that has a higher IO has done it, its not impossible. No one started off at +20. My suggestion is to start working up keys, once you do you will understand why IO is needed, you will also find out why just because someone completed UR 14 doesnt mean they can do SoB +15.

Yes because this is a solution to the thing I was talking about. No it isn’t and you’re ignorant of the conversation if this is your response.

Awfully hard to gatekeep anyone who can just push their own key.

Oh I didn’t realize that I could just push my own key indefinitely all of the time forever and consistently get the same level or reward… oh wait that’s not at all how M+ works.

How to build your Raider IO score from 0:

  1. Run a mythic 0 to get a key
  2. Start your own group for the key
  3. Repeat step 2 until you get to a key level that you are comfortable with
  4. If the key gets too high for your comfort level, drop the key and go back to step 2
  5. Repeat until you have done a key for all dungeons with the key at your comfort level, while increasing the key level based on gained gear
  6. Once you have a good baseline score, you can try applying to pugs

This is how I raise my Raider Io score on all my toons.

I think this takes us in a couple directions. First, if these 450 score players are actually filling these groups and completing dungeons then this is the formula that solves the complaint about not being able to get into a mythic + group. Second, whether it’s name recognition in Vanilla/Classic, Gear Score in Wrath, Item Level, or raider io, players will use whatever metrics are available to be selective about who they play with. Should players not have the agency to decide who they want to play with? If not, why not?

ANYONE CAN GET A MYTHIC+ KEY and ANYONE CAN MAKE A MYTHIC+ GROUP

You can certainly push it enough to get you a score that people are looking for. Sure you can’t run that FH14 over and over, but that’s the trade-off for convenience in getting a run in the first place.

What is it that you want? To just be invited into whatever group you apply to without having to put any work into it? Im not really sure what the problem is other than you just wanting to pick and choose instead of work for it.

I do that or I will do every single dungeon at a specific level, i usually start at about +6 then I will apply to dungeons in +2 level increments til i have them all completed.

There are 12 dungeons. If you’d timed all 12 dungeons at +12 (e.g proven you’re ready for +13) - what should your score be?

Hint - it’s somewhere around 120 x 12 = 1440.

People often give a little leeway, but the simple fact of the matter is to actually prove you’re reliably capable of +13’s, your score is a couple hundred off.

Doesn’t mean you’re not capable of it. Simply means you can’t prove it. People want proof, to make groups that are more likely to succeed. It’s their key. Don’t like it? Push your own key up.

Go do the +11’s and +12’s you haven’t and you’ll be fine. Will literally take a day if you’re any good. Then do the +12’s and +13’s.

Repeat until you get bored, reach your ceiling, find a level you just enjoy doing, or your spec stops getting invites.

IO is as simple as that.
