Does anyone know what the difference is, when using raidbots, if you copy and paste the simC from the in game addon as opposed to just loading your character info from the armory?
Using the mod has several benefits. Firstly, it can capture things that haven’t yet been added to the API. This is usually most pertinent after patches, but might still apply to things like Corruption. Second, it captures your entire character data for use by the sim. It knows all the unequipped items you have in your bags and bank, all of the essences you have and what rank you have them at, etc. None of that data is available from the armory API.
That second part is most useful for the Top Gear sim (in fact, it is required to run Top Gear, it won’t let you do an armory import because it can’t do anything with one), and Top Gear is hands down the best feature of RaidBots. Thing is, Top Gear can be used to sim far more than just gear. It can be used to sim enchants, gems, essences, talent builds, and all of them in combination with one another. It does have a cap on the “complexity” (ie. how many combinations are required to sim, adding new elements multiplies the current combinations. For the record, premium membership increases this cap, in addition to moving you to the front of the line for sims (also, I’m not affiliated with RaidBots, just a premium member and a fan of the site)), so you generally can’t sim all of the options all at once, but it’s still hella useful for checking gear setups, corruption setups (it’ll tell you the highest DPS setup given no more than X corruption, including resists), essences, whatever.
So basically, there’s little reason not to. Importing from armory gives you maybe 20% of the total capabilities that RaidBots has to offer.
Thank you. Appreciate the effort in that response
