I recently came back to wow after a long time away so pardon if this has been mentioned or answered before.
Playing wow again on my hunter and now that I’m up to doing heroic dungeons I’m trying to maximize my gear. Read alot of stuff on statweights for BM and agility and dps is obvious.
Every guide says haste>crit> versat…but when I use raidbots to check statweights it puts highest value on versat…crit then haste for me.
Is this a low gear issue…wtf?? Or is raidbots not very good anymore. I’m using unpaid version statweights after putting in my profile
Statweights are not very good anymore, it’s not a raidbots thing.
Better option is to sim individual drops as they drop and determine what is an upgrade. Since everything is personal loot now anyway you don’t need to worry about making a list for DKP or anything like that.
The only place where statweights might have value over simming individual pieces would be for determining ring enchants, but in that case just sim all 3 and see what’s best.
Well if you are picking something from your Great Vault, can you SIM it so see it performs better or not?
If we cannot decide based on stat, what should we do in these situations?
Yes, you are able to do this. Since we can see what the great vault offers us before we make our choice, we can sim the options being offered to us before making the choice.
If the statweights are wrong then the actual sim whether a piece of gear is an upgrade will be wrong also. If it looks at your current spec and talents, conduits and gear stats and then churns out that versat>crit> haste is what is optimal and that’s wrong then checking to see if an item will be an upgrade will also be wrong.
Dont get me wrong when I was min maxing way back in WOTLK simulcraft was still in the early stages but it didnt make weird errors like this.
It’s not errors, it’s a matter of how it’s being calculated.
Statweights looks at your current gear and assigns weights based on adding like a flat amount of each stat. Gear Compare sim runs the sim in your current gear, then again with the potential upgrade(s) swapped in instead.
The difference is that gear never has flat amounts of a single stat on there, and getting more of one stat can swing your weights wildly due to how stats interact.
This is why stat weights are generally best suited for things like “which enchant should I use” or “how should I gem my gear” rather than “what stats should I aim for on gear that drops”.
You’re misunderstanding a bit how stat weights work.
Stat weights vary depending on the current amount of stats you have. But the effect of secondary stats is multiplicative. Which means that having too much or too little of one stat can be bad. Look at how math works. When multiplying (1.5)(1.5) = 2.25, while (1.1)(1.9) = 2.09, even though 1.5+1.5=3 and 1.1+1.9=3. The same amount of stats multiply differently based on how far the values are from each other. Even if Haste is your best stat and Vers is your worst stat, if your stats become too skewed, math works against you.
Now, let’s look at your gear. You already have a lot of Haste (493 rating) and almost no Versatility (82 rating). So that’s why Versatility is your best stat when counting the gear you’re already wearing. If you switch one piece with Haste for Vers your stat weights will reverse (but you probably won’t gain any dps by doing so). So the message is to prioritize Haste and Crit, but not end with zero Vers or Mastery.
As others have said, sim it. It’s very difficult to tell what stats you need to focus on without doing a deep dive and software just makes that easier.
For example, I’m a BM hunter. Which is better, crit or haste? Without knowing my talents, you can’t answer that with a blanket response. If I choose One with the Pack, then crit will be more important, as I need to crit more often to keep frenzy stacks on my pet. However, if I choose Scent of Blood, then that extra crit becomes less important than simply speeding up my cooldowns with haste.
Also, there are points of diminishing returns. Your rotation might work best with a specific amount of haste, so you’d want to hit that target and then focus on other stats. Too much haste and it can throw off your rotation, as quickly recharging abilities no longer line up with longer cooldowns.
And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. There is so much math involved, it’s best to simply sim your character and follow the recommendations.
Agreed, simming is the the only way. Currently 193ilvl on my main bm hunter, sims tell me to take crit gems and enchants over haste for optimal dps. My secondary bm hunter is lower ilvl, different covenant , it says go haste.
