So how about this;
For every final boss kill, you get a token. There can be a merchant, for 6 tokens you can trade for a blue, for 9 you can trade for a set piece, for 15 you can trade for an epic. You can trade for any item that drops in the raid. 3 tokens can be traded for a large amount of rep with whatever PvP faction you want.
This has multiple benefits;
It keeps people coming back to raids, and creates a reason for people to fill slots if someone drops but have a problem with filling in a half finished raid.
Guarantees you’ll at least get something even if your RNG is terrible.
Let’s you build for offspec or weird specs that you want to try without having to fight other people for that loot (and the drama the comes with it).
No more whining about premades, losing all the time or people giving up in BG’s.
Possibly removing interest in gold buying because you’re not getting what you want and look for the “easy” way out for bis.
Casual players that “don’t have the time” to commit to an hour can look for fills in groups.
I just see the complaining right now people having to do WSG to get Exalted WSG rep when people got it through the Ashenvale event… so to add another means to not do WSG to get WSG rep is going to make some people upset.
I personally don’t care either way. No way I am going to grind WSG for rep >_>;;
Most people don’t really seem to like WSG anyway because of all the premades. AB will likely have the same problem. Remove much of the negative aspects of having to grind through it and losing all the time, and maybe people will chill and just do it for fun, which is what it should be about really.
last time i played wotlk you got emblem of something (basically a token as you said) for doing a heroic daily (completing the dungeon) and you got lesser tokens (per mini boss) to buy gears to up your gear score to get in the better dungeons. I stopped playing before they released the random dungeon finder.
The main balance here is just determining what is “fair” for how many tokens are needed for the items and what “hardcore” players find acceptable vs their time spent. With what I suggested, it still takes several weeks (assuming 3 day lockouts) to get enough tokens for just a blue.
umm… you said 1 mark per boss… 7 bosses = 7 marks, 1 epic you said is 9… so thats about 1 week of effort for 1 purple… you are doing bliz math arent you?
I tend to believe the reason those things exist in the first place is because of lack of ways to get the things you want just so you can be viable, and of course not everyone has the time or patience to sit through doing the same things every day just to get discouraged because they keep losing rolls and not winning anything.
I’ve been in 1 raid in like 12 that couldn’t do the whole dungeon… also consider that when a raid breaks up because everyone gets frustrated that they can’t finish it, they can at least try to fill in on another raid, or try to put together another group to finish where they left off.
While I don’t agree with your benefits list, I agree with the premise that a token-based system would be very positive if effectively implemented. I see it as bad luck protection against poor raid drops/RNG.
Or they can just not have a darn 3 day lock out and instead make it a one day. Even UBRS is treated as a dungeon with 5 instances per hour yet its a 10-man raid/dungeon format.
