I’m having questions here for more experienced mages. My raid sims shows that I can squeeze out 1.1 mil DPS, but my real time DPS warries betwen 700K-800K
I know that my rotation is not perfect, but I was worried what do I do wrong to drop almost 40% in dps.
I don’t even understand good the Warcraft logs and parsing. As well if someone can help me there would be great

Hey just for clarification are we talking DPS against a target dummy or in a raid encounter since those are different.
First thing I would check are the obvious problems being are your sim correct? No raid buffs, no food/rune, or anything like that enabled… Buffs and stuff like that can make a pretty major DPS difference on their own.
If your still struggling I would tell you to then review your rotation some more and practice vs a target dummy for 5 min and compare to sim. Use details to compare dmg breakdown from each source and compare it to raidbots. I personally like to use the WA cast timeline, record my gameplay, and review to be able to be able to more easily see my mistakes.
For rotation help check out videos by PreHeat and Manather, the mage discord, or the WoWHead. I personally like to also look at the APL which is available on the simulationcraft git.
Parses on wowlogs just shows a percentile ranking of your DPS compared to other players DPS. These are obviously not perfect since it does not take into account things like PI, aug buff as usual is still jank, kill times on bosses, and obviously mechanics. It also does not account for your Ilvl, looking at Ilvl parse then can be useful to see how your doing as well compared to people your ilvl, but you also have to consider being low ilvl means most good players won’t be adding parses for you to compare to. Though it’s still an overall useful metric to be using.
Though before worrying parses first thing I would do is go to the target dummy and make sure you can get somewhat close to your sim in terms of DPS (my rule of thumb is I have a solid understanding of the rotation at around 10%, and this number can go up w/ mastery). Once you can achieve this it’s much easier for you to be able to see what your doing wrong in raid whether it be rotational problems due to mechanics, not taking advantage of certain opportunities in the fight for DPS (adds, dmg amp…), and other boss specific mechanics that you could be improving on to maximize DPS uptime.
Your sim will assume lust, raid buffs, weapon oils, pots, flasks, etc on top of perfect performance with zero movement for mechanics. It tells you what your top possible dps is, I’d only be concerned about hitting that number under all ideal circumstances
Looking at your log I think you might be casting barrage a bit too much, or at least more than I do. Unless there is something I don’t know about, I think you probably want to be fishing for clearcasting procs with arcane blast at that point, outside of cooldowns, unless you are out of mana or arcane tempo is expiring
micromanaging clearcasting stacks can help with damage a lot since they will cause spellslinger shards to happen more while you’re in touch of the magi. I think you basically want to only spend clearcasting if you have 3 stacks, are in cd’s, or they will expire before the first to criteria are met.
someone please correct me if I am wrong!
